"I talked to a top Romney adviser tonight who said, 'Look, if Mitt Romney cannot win in Florida then we're going to have to try to reinvent the smoke-filled room which has been democratized by all these primaries. And we're going to have try to come with someone as an alternative to Newt Gingrich who could be Jeb Bush, Mitch Daniels, someone.'

The Beltway’s really a wall, then, and the Potomac a sort of moat. Interesting.

Makes me not want to go there again. Sherrif of Nottingham and Prince John come to mind.

I am not so sure about that....if no candidate has 1440 delegates going into the convention, it will be brokered...after the pro forma vote the delegates are released from their obligation and free to vote however they want.

So I understand.

Bottom line is the Republicans do NOT have to run anything by us...they would be stupid no to do so, to be sure, but i do not think its a requirement....

[I could be dead wrong about all of it....]

Do they get to pick our presidents for us? They pick, we vote?

Unfortunately, yes. The Republican Party does control who the Republican candidate will be. It's their party.

Congressional approval is hovering around 9%. This includes REPUBLICANS!

This "top Romney advisor"--and all the rest of 'em--will be pounding the pavement looking for janitorial jobs if they keep this up.

This "top Romney advisor's" remark alone is going to drive significant numbers into the Gingrich camp.

I'm a registered Republican. It's my party too.

I wasn’t talking about the “Republican Party.”

I was talking about the GOP establishment.

Do they think they get to pick who the president will be?

I mean, if they pick whom they think is next in line, and we are just to sheepishly go out and vote for the establishment candidate, and if he wins in the general election, then aren’t they doing the picking while we do the voting?

Screw that.

And we all know how often the Republican party checks in with Andrea Mitchell! This is another “red herring” at best. The DNC has been messing with our process since it began, why would they stop now? It is silly for her to believe anyone will take her seriously.

“They’re eyeing Mitch Daniels.”

I doubt that it will be Daniels. Once the “family” card is played it’s over. From that point on that person is perceived as weak, damaged goods.

My guess is that it would be Jeb Bush if an alternative is picked. And, if it happens I think it will occur further down the road so that it will be a brokered convention.

IF the Republicans do this they will be killing themselves as a viable party for years to come if not forever.

READ MY LIPS: if Newt rolls through the primaries and they jettison Romney for some other milquetoast squishy can't we all just get along RINO moderate I will be done with the Republican party. I WILL NOT VOTE FOR THEIR NOMINEE and any down ballot votes will be for whatever candidate I like the best no matter party affiliation or chance of winning.

And they can put that into their pipes in their smoke filled room and smoke it. F 'EM ALL!

I’m fairly locally active as an ‘R’, and if Gingrich is taken out, after working for a strong win in SC and FL and in the lead, then I’ll quit.

That is a hoot. A good old Dole/McCain ticket would put the nation into a deep sleep.
