Legendary former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno is gravely ill and his family is rushing to State College to be by his side, his family has confirmed
According to Onward State, Paterno was taken off of a respirator earlier today. However, the Paterno family has not confirmed that report.
Facebook and Twitter are flooded with students and fans saying that they are praying for Joe and for the Paterno family.
Over the last few days Joe Paterno has experienced further health complications, spokesman Dan McGinn said in a brief statement Saturday to The Associated Press. His doctors have now characterized his status as serious."
His family will have no comment on the situation and asks that their privacy be respected during this difficult time, he said.

My apologies.
It's pretty common, I guess, that when they finally make you quit doing what you are passionate about, you don't have as much to live for. You either have to come up with something to replace it in your life (travel with your wife, TV commentary or whatever) or else you will be ready for the hereafter. In Joe's case, of course, he had a bad cancer, and no way to know at this point whether he could have lasted longer or whether it was just the cancer. No matter what, an amazingly swift and terrible end to what had been a legendary career. It could be a Greek tragedy.

The proper thing to do would’ve been pull a shotgun out from under his duster and take care of Sandusky right there.
Oh wait, we have a legal system. “Right to trial by jury” and all that. Who the hell thought of that?
In case you’re unsure, I’m trying to point out the ridiculous assertion that Paterno should’ve said or done something to a man he had no authority over after reporting secondhand information to the proper authorities.
Paterno just died.
Be strong, Sue.
For????
I’m confused?
Anywho, I have the 10 pm hour for Adoration tonight so I’m leaving now. Prayers for you, Narses, & all FReepers. And a Divine Mercy chaplet comin’ Joe Pa’s way.....even though I was absolutely NOT a fan of his.
You do NOT know the facts. What I’ve heard is that JoePa told the president of PSU’s trustees. If anything jhe is quilty of one thing - not following up.
My mouth gets ahead of me sometimes and I fail the test of honest Christian brotherhood. Sadly all too often. If you have time, please remember me in your prayers.
Got link?
That is so terribly sad. All he did was report something that someone else said that he had no firsthand knowledge of.
What else was he supposed to do?
ExCTCitizen... dude, go back to the friggin thread and read my posts. I said a simple prayer for him. I hoped he had made peace with any and all wrong doings in his life. I think my few threads were perfectly clear to anyone who wasn’t looking to pick something apart and try to start a fight. If you want to criticize a prayer and a wish that JoePa has made peace with God then do it with someone else or somewhere else. Have a good night.

actually, he’s always been a staunch conservative ... that’s all you need to know. after that, 94% of the media (vote democrat) will vilify him whenever they can.
i’m going out to have a drink to JoePa and remember PSU.
i despise/detest the country that has evolved since then (the 80s)
“please remember me in your prayers.”
of course. Goodnight, Narses.
