I never said that it was more moral to shack up than to commit adultery.

Both are wrong.

Tweet from MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough:

“CNBC reports that early polling has Newt beating Romney by 14%”

Due to his MS, Cavuto had throat surgery several years ago. He was off-air for months afterward. There are many days that walking is a challenge him. Cavuto may be a Romney guy, but that he keeps going despite the pain makes him a hero in my book.

Apart from politics, Cavuto’s knowledge on money issues makes him one of the few broadcasters whose opinion I actually value.

Tell us what the Catechism and Christ say about Forgiveness.

Jackie was 26 when they were married.

Would people blink an eye if he was not a guy, but instead a 19 year old woman and she were marrying a 26 year old guy?

“I think this mess of Newts marriages should all be forgiven on the grounds that some older predator mess up his idea of women from the starting gate.”

I think that if you’re old enough to get married, you’re old enough to hold your own in the marriage. But then, that’s just me.

If you want to throw Newt under the bus because of his seedy past, that’s your choice. It’s still a sticking point with me even though I support him. But I just thought I’d point this out...

“11 But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people.”

Is != was. If we were never supposed to associate with brothers and sisters who have repented from sinful lifestyles, I doubt we’d be allowed to associate with very many people. Newt claims to have made peace with God. Unless I see evidence to the contrary, who am I to say that he’s being disingenuous?

Just some food for thought.

I guess if you had your way, they would all be burned at the stake for their “transgressions” from which there is no forgiveness or repentance.

Seriously dude, that is exactly how you come across.

What an incredibly thoughtful and profound post. Thanks. I was about to stop trying to catch up on the SC primary news because there are so many really cranky exchanges going on between posters, and then your post pops up. You have given readers something serious to remember and think over for the rest of the weekend in a renewed sense humility.

[Looks like a Young Republican Debater type, if you ask me.]

I didn’t ask you but to me he looks like a petulant little boy as he has proved to be in this election.

He showed just how sneaky and underhanded he is during the last debate when he launched attacks on romney and Gingrich during his closing remarks when he knew they couldn’t have rebuttal time.

Today I am really wishing FR had a “ Ignore this poster” button! Geesh! I just want to read about peoples experiences at the polls and watch the returns come in. Nobody is changing my mind at this point. Just as all the attacks on Palin and Perry never changed my mind about supporting them! GO NEWT!

It says that repentence must come first. One must repent of the sin, and turn away from it before one will be forgiven.

You don’t double down on it. Is marrying your mistress ‘repentence’?

1 Corinthians 5-13 “I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. 11 But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people. What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked person from among you.” I am Catholic, Newt is Catholic, ergo I am within my rights to judge Newt, just as the Church is within their rights to judge me.

There are NO special privileges given to anyone in Matthew 7. Sexually immoral, OR GREEDY, Idolater OR SLANDERER, Drunkard or swindler... do not even eat with such people.... Don't vote for Newt IF that is your cup of 'tea'.

Sexual immorality is NOT limited only to flesh adultery... alone. Paul says in IICorinthians 11:1

Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me.

2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste *virgin* TO Christ.

3 BUT I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtility, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

Spiritual adultery/idolatry is why the Heavenly Father DIVORCED the House of Israel as recorded in Jeremiah 3:8.

There is NOT one flesh being on this earth that has authority to 'JUDGE' Newt, after he has publicly stated he REPENTED. Course you do not have to 'eat' with him.

“I guess if you had your way, they would all be burned at the stake for their “transgressions” from which there is no forgiveness or repentance.”

Nonsense. Repentence would constitute either leaving his mistress and remaining single or returning to his lawful wife. Take your pick.

You don’t consider Newt’s adultery a transgression? Is that what you are saying here?

"...the Catholic church sees marriage as a sacrament... This is different from how protestants see marriage."

"Exacly what is the sacrament of marriage? It "is an inseparable bond between a man and a woman, created by human contract and ratified by divine grace. The nature of the covenant requires that the two participants be one man and one woman" and "that they be free to marry." In the Catholic Church, "it is consent that creates marriage. Consent consists in a human act by which the partners mutually give themselves to each other. Consent must be a free act of the will of the consenting parties, free of coercion or grave external error. If freedom is lacking, the consent is invalid." Interestingly, "it is the spouses who are understood to confer marriage on each other. The spouses, as ministers of grace, naturally confer upon each other the sacrament of matrimony."

"Now, back to the union of God and man. Let's think about some of the constiuent components of marriage: freedom to consent to an inseparable bond, absent any coercion; mutual surrender; male (God) and female (the soul); the parties freely choose to confer marriage upon each other, not one upon the other; and the parties become vehicles of grace for one another, through which the regenerative upper waters flow into the world, transforming water into good wine and sour wine into the upper waters of eternal life and love. ...."

So ask yourselves, would such a contract between two individuals not be ratified by divine grace, unless it was performed in front of a "priest" or "preacher" to make it "so"??

Be careful.
