They call it on the basis of their exit polls. The actual results come in precinct by precinct, and one given set may come from an area that supports, say, Romney over Gingrich. But statewide according to the exit polls, Gingrich won, and he must have done so handily or they wouldn’t have announced it so quickly.

I’d guess the record for a call based on actual sampling of the vote would be CBS in the ‘64 California primary. We had an employee at every polling place in the state, and they were armed with dimes and given orders to phone in after the first ten ballots were counted, then again at the end. The call was made within thirty minutes.

Brian at The Right Scoop hates Ron Paul. The only reason he included him is because he is on the ballot and unfortunately, still the race.

That’s good information to know about your governor. I pray that we do see more of Gov. Perry.

Now that this is over, I will be so glad to be rid of all those annoying phone calls.

They just said on WIS (NBC-Columbia) that Gingrich appears to be winning Spartanburg County by a huge margin. Spartanburg is a big conservative county.

The analyst on WIS also said that right now it looks like
Newt 38%
Romney 29%
but that Gingrich’s margin could conceivably grow.

From Red State:"Newt has taken the worst the media, Romney and the left can dish out, and he’s still standing and fighting with passion and eloquence. Sure, he’d probably be an erratic President, but right now Republican voters don’t care about his Presidency. They care about the fight with the left both Mitt Romney, and the Washington Republican leaders like John Boehner and Mitch McConnell don’t seem inclined to engage in."

Newt Gingrich Wins. What It Means.

Is it ok to quote Erickson?

I can’t wait to hear Glenn Beck on Monday, bellyaching about how all us Newt supporters are liars and not true conservatives. I will listen a few minutes and probably switch it off unable to stomach his whining.

"Juan, at least, gets my respect for speaking well of Gingrich’s win, in spite of being stomped by him a couple of debates ago."

Actually, Juan asked exactly the question every Democrat wanted, so he did us a service.

Are they still going to call Mitt the Front Runner?

Brit Hume just now essentially said as much, because Romney is the only candidate who showed strong in all three primaries so far. Gee, suddenly it seems as though winning SC is virtually inconsequential now. What spin....

They’re still calling Florida for Romney but they were calling SC for Romney 2 weeks ago.

Yeah, that's right. They said that Mitt was a shoe-in since he was going to sweep Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.
