What is it about this primary season that causes Republicans to go around the bend? The current beneficiary of the anyone but Romney mania is Newt Gingrich, who may actually win the South Carolina primary tomorrow. I find that astonishing. Gingrich has been mostly out of the public view since he retired from Congress 13 years ago. The most surprising feature of this endlessly surprising political year is that, at age 68, Gingrich has made a comeback.
It is hard to make clear-cut statements about the mercurial and often contradictory Gingrich, but one thing we can say with absolute certainty: he will never be President of the United States. Put aside the fact that he lasted only four years as Speaker of the House before resigning in disgrace, leaving Congress with an approval rating around 15%. Forget that he was the father of the earmark. Never mind his notorious lack of self-control and his attacks on free enterprise. Those are all worthy topics for another day, but for the moment lets just focus on the allegations by Newts second ex-wife that hit the press this week. Apart from all the other good reasons why Gingrich will never be President, Marianne Gingrichs sensational allegations snuffed out any possible hope that Newt can beat Barack Obama in 2012.

Im in the anyone but Romney camp, but - even so - I dont think supporting Romney should be the kiss-of-ZOT.
Then leave! Go and worship ay the altar of that baby killer Romney.
Geesh!
Dang, yet ANOTHER Romneybot talking point. Right out of Haley's playbook from yesterday.
Yet you aren't a Mittbott. Go figure.
FWIW, Pelosi already tried that gambit. Blew up right in her face.

Great ideas the only problem is Newt was in bed with the global warming ethanol whores so does his energy plan include continuing that form of crony capitalism?
Removing liberal judges...wonderful idea, but completely UNCONSTITUTIONAL. Or doesn’t the Constitution matter unless Obama is in the White House?
It also occurs to me that a lot of your other great ideas take action by Congress. Or do you want Newt to act unilaterally through executive action like Obama is?
IBTZ.
You are a poltroon.
IBTZ!
So a guy who has a few affairs, gets divorced a couple of times, and clearly behaved poorly in his private life is less moral than someone who, in his private life, seems to live exemplarily, but who in his public life promoted the murder of unborn babies from the 1970s (his admission) to at least 2005, who made sure that his own DeathCare law guaranteed cheap and easy abortions, who shares every bit of the guilt of every single one of over 50 million abortions committed for the past 39 years?
Sorry, I'll go with the serial adulterer over the serial mass murderer.
I'm just funny that way.

Sweet!!!!
IBTZ - mitt bot loser
Nobody “loves” Newt, it’s just that he is the best out of a bad lot. But this group of candidates is the worst I’ve ever seen, from top to bottom...but I reluctantly agree that Newt is the only one with a shot to take down Obama.....Romney will get crushed.
Wow...that took courage. I applaud you. I didn’t buy in to the Palin hysteria like almost everyone here and I’m not buying in to Newt. Sorry Jim.
Newt is the Brett Favre of Republican Politics. As a born and raised Packer fan there were days I loved Favre and days he drove me crazy.
Mark my words. Just like Favre, Newt will throw an interception to end the season and break your heart. He will say or do something absolutely devistating (like he has so many times before) and will hand Obama another four years in office. I’m not willing to take that chance.
I frankly think the remaining field sucks, but Santorum sucks the least.
Sorry, I’ll go with the serial adulterer over the serial mass murderer.
I’m just funny that way.
LOL!
And you have to admit, Jimmy Carter's worst sin was that he once had "lust in his heart", do we really want to go back to that? Of course all other things being equal, I want the guy with less baggage, but all other things aren't equal in this race.
If you go back to some of the earlier debates and interviews there are several where Newt is quite contrite about his past mistakes and talks about his faith in God.
Bringing up the issue yet again with “news” that is not new is just another example of the MSM trying to bring down a conservative a day before a primary. Newt was quite right to call out the CNN guy and ABC on it.
Make mine diet lime.
You are casting viriol, firebrands, and death.
Were you a reasonable man, you would recognise the great good Gingrich did as speaker of the house.
He speaks words of wisdom and truth now as well.
And he will fight tooth and nail against the Democrats Socialist and tyrannical schemes.
Since you are not running in the primaries, I will support Newt.
And, Yes, he was wrong to lose his previous marriages. I don’t think he will lose this one.
Wish you consistently went after Soros, Obama, and Reid with the same venom.
