I stand with both of you. The vitriol that was directed towards Perry and his supporters on this site was unlike anything I have ever seen here. It did no good to hit the abuse button. Didn’t have to draw me a picture, I got it. My opinion wasn’t welcome or respected. I’m not paying good money for that. People I respected for years and who claim to be God fearing Christians spewed nastiness like a scene from The Exorcist. This is not how decent rational human beings treat each other. Then the Freepathon failed to rake in money as expected and there was coincidentally a sudden softening of the attacks on pro-Perry posters as they protested with their closed checkbooks. Finally Perry drops out and it’s all sweetness and light again. Over the years FReepers have rightly damned the morals of Clinton, Edwards, Wiener, etc. then in a sudden about face proclaimed it was okay for Cain and Gingrich to have similar character flaws. Forgiveness and redemption is there for Republicans, but not for Democrats. The hypocrisy and lack of moral consistency here is breathtaking. No surprise that they have now settled on a man of little personal character as their ideal candidate.

There is no hypocrisy in a Christian’s belief in forgiveness and the ability of someone to change behavior. Clinton, Edwards and Wiener are progressives. We do not like their message. Their families can forgive.
We like Newt’s message and spirit to fight for righting this republic. Newt has publicly admitted to his transgressions.
Perry didn’t get half of the vitriol that my favorite candidates got. Sarah Palin. Then Cain and Bachmann. Well, they’re not going to do it to Newt. Not on FR anyway.
That, and the race card, against a Texan like him...and the inevitable link to "Bush's 3rd term"...we'd have had a better chance with a Pawlenty-Bachmann ticket.
Cheers!
