The Intrade investors are (unlike Newt supporters such as myself) unsentimental, and for the first time in the run-up to the South Carolina primary, their collective assessment has Newt as the favorite, with a 57.5% chance of winning. Even earlier today, after all the favorable morning & afternoon polls came out, Newt was only at about 42%.
What made the difference? A couple candidates:
1) Yet another PPP poll came out about 1/2 hour ago, including polling done this very night, showing Gingrich maintaining his 6 point lead.
2) Santorum's attack Chiwawa routine at the CNN debate tonight drew some blood re Romney, but mostly damaged Santorum himself, and will, IMHO, accelerate the South Carolina voter exodus from Santorum to Gingrich.

I agree with point 2. Santorum nailed Romneycare, but he came off real bad overall. His demeanor was amateurish - whiny, angry and just unlikable.

I’m probably full of it but IMHO, Newt won the nomination with his first answer at the debate tonight. The abc smear piece with Newt’s ex-wife just ain’t workin’ for the DNC toadies in the “media”. That dog won’t hunt. Any remaining respect for the state run “media” just got whacked down a few more notches. Another exploding cigar for the DemocRATS. They fall for it every time.
Santorum had the best closing on why he’s most electable against Obama than either Newt/Romney. The diverse CNN panel thought he’s was one of the best performances of the night. I agree. Watch Santorum’s numbers go up. He’s on CNN’s Morgan Piers tomorrow night.

Oh my goodness. I don’t go to Drudge but I did on your request and I am just stunned how much info is negative on Gingrich. Nothing Romney? Not even a small headline? Nothing. Folks have been saying this all night but I sorta didn’t think much about it. I am still stunned. lol.

Intrade says Romney won Iowa and wont revisit the issue. I think someone should sue them
