Newt Gingrich's two adult daughters said that charges by Gingrich's second wife in an interview with ABC News that the GOP presidential contender asked for an "open marriage" are categorically false.
Kathy Lubbers and Jackie Cushman, Gingrich's daughters by his first wife, told ABC News Chief Investigative Correspondent Brian Ross they had spoken with their father about Marianne Gingrich's allegation and that he had assured them he never asked for an open marriage.
"We spoke with him about that, Brian, and he said it's simply not true," said Kathy Lubbers. "The truth is our father and Marianne had a difficult marriage. They had a difficult divorce. ... The American people have moved on. Our father has moved on."
"I think most divorces are very painful, they're never easy," said Jackie Cushman. "Dad tried very hard to make their marriage work, and unfortunately it didn't."

Because I don’t like Newt’s behavior, I must praise Obama? Huh?
"But his greatest presidential stumbling block may be right under his nose. At home, Newt's second wife, Marianne Ginther Gingrich, tells me she doesn't see herself in the First Lady's job. "Watching Hillary has just been a horrible experience," commiserates Marianne. "Hillary sticking her neck out is not working." What happens if Newt runs?, I ask. He can't do it without me," she replies. "I told him if I'm not in agreement, fine, it's easy" --she giggles at her naughtiness. "I just go on the air the next day, and I undermine everything...I don't want him to be president and I don't think he should be." Why not? "Right now, the presidency is not a single person. It's not so much what he'd be doing. It's what I'd be doing."
She is a typical left wing liberal feminist of the marxist democrat persuasion and I would not be suprised if she is not lying for profit or fame.
Not true. Reagan was the first divorced President.
Yes, I have. She didn't think he was suitable then and she doesn't think he's suitable now. Not really all that difficult to understand.
Making my views known about candidates that sleep around is "throwing mud"? Uh huh. Family values and all that is just bunk, eh?
But because Gingrich get's standing O's (I guess you would have been OK with Clinton refusing to answer questions about his marital problems as long as he got standing O's for his answer) all is OK I guess.
I’m sorry for her actually. It is awful to be angry and bitter. My Mom was like that. It ruined her life.
That's NOT what she said. More spin. Are you dizzy yet?
No.
But to work against Newt is to almost guarentee Obama’s re-election.
I think I’ll send you a list of the previous presidents and Founders and their character flaws. You’d be surprised what good historians dug up on them. If I do this, I’m not doing it to tear anybody down, but to show you Newt is not the worst that could be had.
As I said, based on the standards we hold the candidates to, George Washington is about the only one that could pass muster. There may be others, but you’d be surprised how few of them there are.

Yes, It is true. Reagan did not ask for the divorce...Wyman did.
Reagan reluctantly divorced. Gingrich sought it out.
And how do the daughters know this to be a fact?
Wrong again. Apparently you haven't read her interviews.
She felt Newt had a streak of megalomania. She didn't think his motives for seeking power were right.
Grasping at straws, aren't you.
We're done. You're an attack dog that thinks you'll help your choice by tearing down someone else. That never works.
Buh Bye!
‘The only people who know what truly occurred in this marriage are Newt and Marianne. Everything else is hearsay.’
Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner!
False again. There are many others besides Washington. Don't pretend that integrity is so hard to find. Your claim that "most" behaved as Gingrich did is silly.
I too know my history. Don't try to tarnish others to make Newt's behavior look better. Your falsehoods will not work with me.
‘I only asked because Gingrich is the only candidate capable of getting Obama out of office’
Repeating that meme over and over as the Newt defenders have, doesn’t make it a fact.
I’ll get back to you.
I’ll eat my words if I’m wrong, but I suspect I won’t hear from you if I’m right. :)
As I said, by the standards of today, not their time.
Go Newt! He is on fire tonight!
Perfect description of most women who keep their husband’s name 13 years after the divorce. Shame on the leftwing media for exploiting her.
Yes, true. Newt sought out divorce, unlike Reagan. You think of me as an attack dog. Poor Gingrich has to suffer someone thinking his behavior was vile. Meanwhile large numbers of people are attacking a woman for speaking out about the damage an ambitious politician has done to her.
This is called "attacking the messenger" which the left is so good at and which the right usually opposes. Until now. The hypocrisy is pretty rife around here right now.
