And then there were three and a half minds left campaigning for the Republican presidential nomination: Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul.
Hosted by CNN's John King at the North Charleston Coliseum.
Perry handled himself as a class act this morning...no question.
Very well done.
Tweet of the night summarizing Santorum’s debate message:
“You guys suck and I’m gonna tell.”

So now it's become a brutal war no matter how it's framed...and once our guy gets in it's going to get even worse....the democrats will not take this laying down by any means.
I think Rush is right that Obama’s taking out our guys to clear the field so he can run against Romney... because either of them winning will satisfy the Democrats. In fact the Democratic base might even prefer Romney over Obama...since many are fast getting to the place they don't want to be associated with him.
I’ve never heard it said so well - you cover all the reasons!
A lot of people don’t know facts about Newt Gingrich.
As a small child Newt witnessed his father beating and abusing Newts mother. She divorced him, remarried, and Newt was adopted by his step dad. Later he was sexually molested by a high school teacher. Yeah, the first wife he married because she got pregnant and he felt obligated to do the right thing.
Later he committed adultery with Mairanne Ginther, who became his second wife. He realized he had made a mistake in this marriage, and after two trial seperations sought a divorce.
Newt Gingrich had an epiphany. He had to, or he would have self-destructed.
This man was carrying a troubled emotional burden while serving in Congress but he sought counseling, joined AA and eventually turned his life around after a religious conversion.
Christians are not better than other people. They forgive others, ask forgiveness for themselves, and try to lead a better life by not sinning further. Im not disgusted with Newt Gingrich, who I believe has honestly changed his life.
It is difficult to feel sorry for Marianne Ginther. She gave the bitter interview originally in 1995. She is only coming forward now to destroy Newt Gingrich by smearing him and his wife to the detriment of our countrys future.
People need to look at this situation clearly and resist knee-jerk reactions.
The Santorums arent free from smears either. Karen Santorum became the mistress of an abortion doctor at age 22. Google news Karen Santorum.
This type of yellow journalism, the practice of personal destruction, sickens me. It is out there and folks must realize it is made public knowledge towards one purpose only - to destroy likely candidates in the eyes of people like yourself.
Santorum did give Newt credit for gaining control of the House and welfare reform. What other accomplishment was there?
It was amusing to watch the moderator defending himself after the debate about what a good journalist he was. Clearly, he was still smarting from the smack-down Newt gave him and the booing of the audience. And all the other talking heads had to pat him on the back, to reassure him that he was the great journalist he claimed he was. Poor baby!
Bless you, Fawn, for posting that magic moment.
The debate was over right then. Newt took the air right out of their tires.
He’s the one to put America back on track. He won’t bow or apologize and I want to see him with dignitaries around the globe, respecting HIM and the USA again!
He’s competing for votes with Gingrich of course he’s gonna attack him. And there are plenty of legitimate lines of attack Newt is a very flawed choice.
“He wont bow or apologize and I want to see him with dignitaries around the globe, respecting HIM and the USA again!”
Many Muslim enemies have donated to/endorsed both BHO AND Ron Paul; they’d be happy with either one. But you can bet they’re quaking with fear at the thought of a President Gingrich.
More like spot off.
Wow SatinDoll,
Absoultely excellent post.

“I think he suspends by Monday.
“Why should he?”
Necessity. Santorum won IA, had a good showing at 4th in NH, then got the endorsement of a significant collection of large, national Evangelical groups, and with all that is looking to come in last in SC, where he should be at least #2.
If, in fact, he does come in last in SC, the next stop, in 10 days, will be FL, a much larger and more expensive state than any to date. He simply won’t have the resources to compete effectively. His $ and endorsements will dry up.
These early primaries are about ‘winnowing out’ the crowd, and there are certain markers along the way that a candidate either meets or not. If not, s/he is outta there. If the withdrawal is graceful, like Perry’s was today, the candidate can live to fight another day (or year). That would be particularly true for Santorum, the youngest of this year’s crop of competitors.
Santorum can waste his time and money if he wishes, it’s over for him.
Eventually, nobody will care he is in...he’ll be around 5-7% after Florida is over.
Gingrich/Perry

How so.
Good one. Santorum tuned my head last night. I know little about him but he definitely got my attention.
Gingrich is better than Romney (I think) and Obama (definitely) but he's a mixed bag IMO and I think unpredictable once he's in power.
I suppose it's too late for Santorum.
Ok I should habve said a philandering Republican husband!
