Charleston, South Carolina (CNN) - Rick Perry is telling supporters that he will drop his bid for the Republican presidential nomination on Thursday, two sources familiar with the plans told CNN.

Thanks, MM. You’re a good egg.
If he does become the President of the Second Republic of Texas, are helping me pack? ;)
Perry was attacked by Cain saying he was behind the backstabbing rumors and by MB viciously with her lies. While these two ‘so called’ conservatives let the ‘evil one’ untouched. Now we have weasel santorum doing mitt’s dirty work. It’s pathetic to watch. Of course, we know where RP’s allegiance is to - and it’s not America. He attacked Newt on his lack of military record and left ‘the evil one’ mitt untouched! Needless to say, huntsman and mitt are cousins - so we know that story.
Santorum would not have won or come close in Iowa if romney had not spent millions lying about Gingrich. I honestly don’t think Rick Santorum can, in good conscience, use Iowa as the example for why he should be ahead of Newt.
Reports on Twitter are 100 Tea Party leaders are going to come out in support of Newt. No time frame given.
Newt said it would be a busy week for the GOP. Newt's PAC said Newt would get a big endorsement this week. Things are happening and it explains the timing of the ‘ex-wife’ story.
Keep up the good fight.
Good. It’s pretty clear now that Newt is the non-Rom that survived the shakeout, for all his flaws.
Good points. Santorum had to be the choice to stop Romney in Iowa since Gingrich had taken so many unethical hits in the media from Paul and Romney.
Cain bus at Perry press conference location. WHY??
LOL!!!!!!!!
A lirrle cracked maybe, but facts is facts. I hope the people of Texas will welcome Perry home with open arms.
Perry will endorse Gingrich, Fox News has learned.
Perry will make the announcement at 11am in SC.
A good decision, made by a good man and a patriot.
I have to say that I’m extremely saddened by this turn of events, even though it’s not unexpected. I’m convinced that the best candidate to lead this nation just slipped away. I expect my support will go to Newt now, but I admit I’ll need to get over this disappointment.
One parting shot to you folks who savaged this good, decent man (and you know who you are): you should be thoroughly ashamed of yourselves. By dropping out now, he’s proving his character and his love for his country. Some of you could take a lesson.
I will support whatever Rick Perry decides to do.
If I trusted him enough to be all in for him during the campaign to date, I now trust him enough to believe he’s made the best decision he knows how to make...for his country.
The timing makes good sense as well.
Mmm...maybe they are both going to endorse Newt today.
Good to hear, Grunthor. Blessings to you and yours.
I agree. I wish it were different.
Another thing that could happen as a result of the Perry decision to suspend is that it could result in Ron Paul coming in dead last. I hope that’s the result.
If that could be the result in both SC and FL in terms of Ron Paul, it could send his primary cross-over supporters back to Michael Moore or the Libertarian Party or Truthers United or Al Qaeda where they belong.
Ann Coulter, Beck, Drudge, Niki Haley, Fox News, Marianne Gingrich, Juan Williams, CAIR very upset.
