Newt World Responds to ABC Buzz
NRO ^ | 1/18/2012 | Robert Costa

Bob Walker, a senior Gingrich adviser, says the campaign will fight back. “It is pretty nasty to use personal tragedy for political exploitation,” he says. “That was a very bitter divorce, and you’re talking about somebody who is still, probably, very bitter.”

Below, Gingrich’s daughters issue a memo to ABC News:

To: ABC News Leadership

From: Kathy Lubbers, Jackie Cushman

Date: January 18, 2012

The failure of a marriage is a terrible and emotional experience for everyone involved. Anyone who has had that experience understands it is a personal tragedy filled with regrets, and sometimes differing memories of events.

We will not say anything negative about our father’s ex-wife. He has said before, privately and publicly, that he regrets any pain he may have caused in the past to people he loves.

ABC News or other campaigns may want to talk about the past, just days before an important primary election. But Newt is going to talk to the people of South Carolina about the future– about job creation, lower taxes, and about who can defeat Barack Obama by providing the sharpest contrast to his damaging, extreme liberalism. We are confident this is the conversation the people of South Carolina are interested in having.

Our father is running for President because of his grandchildren – so they can inherit the America he loves. To do that, President Obama must be defeated. And as the only candidate in the race, including Obama, who has actually helped balance the national budget, create jobs, reform welfare, and cut taxes and spending, Newt felt compelled to run – to serve his country and safeguard his grandchildren’s future.

Checked your posting history. You hate Gingrich so any extenuating circumstances will not affect your opinion. We’re done.

His first wife didn’t die and never had cancer.

If we were talking about specific acts of libel, testimony would be limited to those specific acts of libel. This wouldn’t be a divorce trial, it would be a civil trial and it would be highly focused on specific statements that were false/unprovable and injurious.

Just saw on Fox News an interview with Newt where he said he is not going to comment on anything that is said in the interview. His daughters sent a letter to ABC saying that personal family business should not be public fodder. If anyone wants to question his daughters feel free but he isn’t going to comment on the interview. Smart move

I "hate" Gingrich because I don't agree with some of his positions?

Oh, brother.

I will vote for him if he gets the nomination. But I think he's got faults. That's "hating"?

You got some weird definitions.

“You have facts or are you jist opining?”

Haters, as evidenced here, don't need facts. Their hate alone is their support, facts, judge, jury and hangman.

Newt did wrong. We have all done wrong.

What pisses me off is that this 'hit job' is being brought to you by the geniuses who gave us Bod Dole and John McCain. They are 'republicans' who dish up crap, the day prior to the primary election day to give you a small set of probably partial truths to 'guide' you to vote against Gingrich and for Romney. They think they can 'force' you to vote they way they want you to vote by appealing to the supposed carnality of a man, who professed his behavior was sinful, wrong, stupid, and was his own fault,....all the while they commit the greater sin of selling their vice of the serpents' subtilty of self-submitted enslavement by 'getting you to do it their way'......put your own instincts on the shelf for now...vote the way we want you to vote....for we are your masters....we call the shots.

Newt did wrong....ABC and the establishment republicans are doing a greater wrong.

Well, that, and “peace, love, dope” ruled the day for many—especially the ‘beatniks’ and hippies. We sacrificed 50,000+ people in Viet Nam and let Iranians take our Embassy staff without consequence. We disengaged from gold as a currency and yet, supported Israel in the 6-Day war. We gave up the Panama Canal to the Communist Chinese and stood in gas lines—twice. We abandonned our economy to foreign interests and abandonned the practice of praying to God everyday before school started. We made abortion legal.

Communism was only part of all this, as were the riots in the 60s, the assassinations—including of a President, the Bay of Pigs fiasco, and the Viet Nam war itself.

Then, there was the moon race and the walk on the moon.

That era was a truly wild ride. Very, very few came out unscathed. I am in that group, and I have the scars to prove it.
