First Time in 16 Years: A Standing "O" given at a Debate. (Vanity)
January 17, 2011 | no dems

Posted on 01/17/2012 4:12:55 AM PST by no dems

Frank Lunz was on the FOX Post Debate Analysis last night after South Carolina Debate. He made the statement that in 16 years of following Debates, that was the first time he'd ever seen a candidate get a Standing Ovation. Newt did not just get a Standing "O" from his supporters but, by-and-large from the entire crowd when he defended his comment about Barack Obama being the "Food Stamp President" and his stance on young Blacks needing a work ethic rather than government assistance.

Newt didn't just "knock it out of the park" once last night. He "knocked it out of the park" several times. I'm telling you; when the dust settles, if the two major Party nominees are Newt and Obama, Newt will mop the floor with the Marxist in Chief. And, refute this if you want, but most Americans, especially those who are not political junkies and are not tremendously informed, make up their mind as to whom they will vote for by watching the Debates. I've observed this since 1960. The Debates are the tipping points in the elections. Therefore, I submit that Mitt Romney is NOT the most electable Pubbie running. Newt Gingrich is the one who can defeat Barack Obama.

I can tell you things about Santorum that prove that he is a rino... but I was willing to vote for him and you can ask Kaslin about that.... I have stated that many times to her. I could vote for Perry... he is a good man... flawed but a good man. Santorum blew it with me last and that is the fact Jack. I don't care if you like it or not... the man is a liar... so support a liar... seems most republicans these days are liars so why not. They lie to themselves more than anyone else.

In a debate with Obozo Newt would be an unstoppable juggernaut while Romney would be like a used car salesman trying to sell a lemon. However, Newt’s checkered past will be lied about and distorted by Obama’s smear machine. Romney can never be more than a milquetoast candidate while Newt has fire in the belly. I would bet Newt in the end would beat Obozo.

Obama ain't gonna debate

There doesn't have to be an official debate for their to be a "debate" between Obama and Newt. Such an unofficial "debate" will be started by Newt as he hounds and pounds Obama in the press on a daily basis.

Eventually, Obama will have to respond and Newt follows up by more pounding...

Rick is a good man but needs to stand aside and let the better man win.

Excellent news. Mr. Gingrich is our last, best hope to defeat Mitt Romney.

I was for Herman Cain because of his ability to go around the media and take it to the Dems and the media (yes, I know, redundant) on his own, and I am for Newt vs. the rest of the field for the same reason.

Romney will be a disaster like Dole and McCain if he gets the nod.

rove said that last night’s debate ‘solidified’ Newt’s SECOND place win in SC. I’m like....what?

I would love for Tokyo Rove to eat those words.Another great debate by Newt on Thursday would change the dynamic of this primary.

The dems and their media lapdogs.

Every time Mitt opens his mouth and speaks it reminds me of those late-night used car salesman ads we used to see in CA.

Please do not compare Mitt to someone like Cal Worthington and his dog, Spot. Cal was so much better and way more truthful than the Mitt-steer.....not to mention, entertaining! :)

Let’s hope his performance resonates and SC puts him above Mitt on Saturday!!!

There is another debate on Thursday and my guess is that many SC voters watched last night and will watch again.

If the results are similar then I think that Newt will win in SC.

It's going to get real interesting.

I agree. But what Newt lacks in perfection, he more than makes up for in inspiration. We all sorely need his inspiration. He is the shining beacon on the hill.

One of my biggest frustrations with Republicans is that they have all appear to have the spine of a jellyfish around Obama and his attack dogs (the msm). Obama will control the conversation unless someone can stand their ground against him.

It’s long overdue. Republicans work so hard to “be nice”and just wind up looking really really weak.

Even if I don’t agree with the candidate 100% I’d at least respect him/her if they stood strong against the Pelosi/Reid/Obama/Democrat party nightmare.

I think Newt can give as good as he gets and he can at least express himself without a teleprompter.

Thank you for posting and noting the time to view.

The only thing better would have been if Newt had asked Ron Williams how he felt when his liberal friends at NPR slammed the door on him and closed his opportunity. The capitalist open market then opened the door of opportunity for him to succeed.

This is about providing opportunity, equally to all, not shunning those who do not tow the government handout party line. The past administration has been just like the communist party by giving handouts to their cronies and withholding equality to those who disagree.

O’Bummer is like a drug pusher, trying to get people to get addicted to the government tit so he can pull their puppet strings. Equal opportunity will set them free.

Right now, I think that Newt is the best man for the job.

He wasn't my first choice, but I think that he's the best we've got.

When was I convinced? When Juan Williams asked him that loaded, race-baiting question. 99 out of 100 pols would have squirmed like a puppy who just peed on the rug, and fallen all over themselved to apologize, or at least "Clarify what they meant" in a long-winded, rambling answer.

Newt didn't. He stood behind what he said with a simple, "Nope. I said it and I meant it." A politician with a spine? How refreshing.

So long as he doesn't screw it up - which is always a good bet, Republicans are always shooting themselves in the foot - I think that we saw the next president in that moment last night.
