Juan takes from granted a segregated society, a balkanized society. One of the great problems of Britain before the First World War was the Irish Question. The intensity of that war was such that if the Great War had not occured, there would be have a war in Ireland. Not a small one like the Easter Rebellion, but one like the thing that happened in Northern Ireland over a period of more than 30 years, magnified ten fold. Thats because the English had put up a wall between themselves and the daily lives of the Irish people.
