There’s earthquakes all over the place where there never used to be earthquakes, allegedly from water pumped underground for “fracking” shale to extract gas, and these guys want to frack a volcano?
You obviously don’t understand how the system works.

Nobody who is loudly fretting about possible earthquakes from fracking is fretting about the unintended consequences of this proposal. Why?
(For my part, I wish the project all success. I think it very unlikely there will be any unintended consequences, except if there is an undue amount of hazardous minerals in the returned steam.)
$21.5 million in taxpayer money and they do NOT have plans to generate ANY power from this project! as per the article.
They should have named the company Volyndra.

About the only 'production' I really expect from this is from the tapayers' pockets.

Since this is a green project all the way, obviously they are going to use free perpetual motion windmills to do the pumping.

One seminal difference: In fracking, the pressures involved are generated at the surface using pumps, and can be controlled, at least to the extent that pressure generation can be regulated or even stopped by shutting down the pumps.
Not so in this instance, where the pressure will ideally be generated at depth, by natural forces. In short, there will be only a limited amount of control that can be exerted over pressure generation.
This could go well, or it could be a disaster, or it might just prove to be another Solyndra-type sump for our money (watch for gubmint loan guarantees, grants, etc. to stack up...somewhere).

They just dig a ditch from the site down to either Paulina Lake or East Lake, then line it with pickles.
The water will run up right to where it's needed...the more pickles, the more water.
