I walked into my editors office on Monday, a few minutes before our weekly staff meeting at 11 a.m. He was working on his computer. Whatcha doin? I asked.
Buying a gun. Hes a man of few words, so I couldnt tell if he was joking or not.
Seriously?
Yes. Im doing it before the meeting. Look at this, he said, pointing at his screen. I peered over his shoulder at the website called Gallery of Guns. You just put the gun you want in this box and it pulls up all the options. He selected a Kahr PM9.
Why are you getting another Kahr? I asked, knowing he already has the Kahr K40 (which Im holding in the photo above).
Ive had that one since 1997 and want a smaller one for carry. This one weighs half as much. And Im keeping the same brand for consistency, he explained. Now I just type in my name, address and credit card number to order it.
Dont you have to put in your concealed carry permit number? I asked.
Nope. The most annoying thing is remembering my password for the website, he said. He entered his zip code and got a list of gun stores. Just pick the one nearest to me and pick it up. Thats it.
Thats it? No tests? No registration? No waiting? I asked.
Nope, he said as he hit the submit button and headed off to our staff meeting.
The next day at 3 p.m., I got an email from my editor with the subject line, "America Rocks." I clicked it open and his messages said, "Just got a call. My gun is ready for pick up."
On Wednesday morning, he went to the store.

Today at the Skeet/Trap range in Albuquerque, NM I met recent transplants form Illinois and California. When they asked what it took to buy a handgun in NM I told them “a driver’s license and money”. The asked about waiting periods and purchase limits.
They both about fell on the ground when I told them I’d purchased 5 handguns in one afternoon.
“How did you do that?”
I had money and a driver’s license.
Reminds me of when I was in Tucson, AZ
I walked into a gun store and said “I moved here from NY and I’m not sure what the laws are in this state- what do I have to do to buy this gun?”
And he said “give me $450”.
LOL. I stopped at the local gun store last night and picked me up a Ruger LC9 on my way into town to buy groceries. I needed to get some bread and milk and stuff.
Cool! That’s how it should be.
"Are you a fugitive from justice?" "Yes, I am, and I am such a completely inept one, I am going to answer yes to this question and give myself away!"
Why is this news?
I still have to get permission from the wife...
I've bought from them. My local dealer uses the site for his 'online store'.
I bought my better half an LC9 just before Christmas.
Nice little gun.
That’s why I picked this one up. Something the wife would be able to handle too.
Last week I bought a box of ammo in Iowa with only a drivers license. I was legaly carrying at the time with a Florida permit. I could not have bought a gun there with my Illinois FOID. I returned to my home state where I cannot carry, but could have bought a gun. Confusing laws?
Just can’t resist rubbing my Illinoisan nose in it can you!
I agree.
I have to be careful with the wife. If I'm not...there will be a VERY LONG waiting period. ;-)
LOL...yeah, I don't joke about filling out that form since the first time I bought a gun, I was joking around, marveling at such a stupid question, and I VERY stupidly marked "yes." Thankfully, the nice lady helping me was very understanding and helped me through my numbnutsness. I was quite embarrassed, as you can imagine!
Out by Double Eagle airport west of town, or a different one?
There seems to be a mag shortage though. Haven't found any in the stores. May have to order some from Ruger.
