Zogby: Paul Is the 'Fly in the Ointment' for Romney
Newsmax ^ | 1/11/12 | Martin Gould

Mitt Romney’s march to the Republican presidential nomination could be halted if South Carolinians turn out in droves at next week’s primary, pollster John Zogby tells Newsmax.

A high turnout would be good for Ron Paul, and it could just be enough for an upset in the Palmetto State, Zogby said in an exclusive interview with Newsmax.TV.

Although Romney had an “impressive” victory in New Hampshire, South Carolina is a very different proposition for the former Massachusetts governor, he said.

“There is one fly in the ointment, and that’s Ron Paul,” said Zogby, the CEO of IBOPE Zogby. “Ron Paul draws his support from cities and college campuses and young people — not only 18- to 29-year-olds, but those under-40 as well.

“So if there is a high turnout in South Carolina, Ron Paul could actually hurt Mitt Romney.”

Ron Paul is not in Iowa or NH anymore. SC is not Paul country. Its not Mitt Country either. I just watched that movie Newt’s pac put together on Mitt and its going to have a big effect. I think Newt’s chances in SC are getting better and better.

Newsmax is way behind the curve. Paul is a stalking horse for Romney. He never attacks Romney but spends millions attacking Gingrich and Santorum.

The fix is in. It's going to be Romney vs. Obama in the General. And-among others-we have Ron Paul and his unwashed "revoloution" to thank. Conservatives will not easily forget those who threw us under the bus in 2012.

“He never attacks Romney”

I just got an email from the Paul campaign, most of it was attacking Romney including:

“Our Party cannot defeat Barack Obama in the fall if we nominatea candidate who rammed through socialized medicine schemes in his state, supported the $700 billion TARP bailout, and flip-flops on issues like life, the Second Amendment, and global warming.

Unlike Mitt Romney, I’ll never have to apologize for my record, because I will be proud to campaign on my long history of defending the Constitution, opposing Big Government powergrabs, and never voting foran unbalanced budget.”

How does Santorum take such a hit.

You think it was true they paraded him up in Iowa because the State didn't want to have RP come in 1st or second to keep the state relevant?

Was listening to a Breitbart interview a few days before the Iowa vote and the situation I just mentioned was talked about.

Gingrich is looking better every single day.

Sorry but Paul simply is not rational about American national defense.

This week was a “gut check” week.

Gingrich of all the GOP candidates, responded correctly.

Gingrich is being bold, and showing he is a worthy champion.

Both Perry and Santorum have collapsed in the face of the Mittens’ political correctness assault.

Very disappointing meekness, from both of them.
