SAN ANTONIO -- A man is dead and two more are in the hospital following a home invasion that turned into a gunfight early Wednesday morning at 8219 Quail Creek, police say.
The homeowner told police he heard a knock at the door and then some commotion around the garage just before 5:00 a.m. Thinking it was suspicious, the man got his shotgun and went to see what was going on.
Police said the man met two suspects, armed with a AR-15 assault rifle, in the kitchen and began shooting.
One of the suspects was fatally shot, police said, while the other ran out of the house after being shot in the chest. He ran to a get away vehicle where a woman described as his girlfriend drove him to nearby Northeast Baptist Hospital.
The 24-year-old surviving suspect was later taken by medical helicopter to San Antonio Military Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Officers said the homeowner took a bullet in the face, which exited through his cheek. He was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center in stable but serious condition.
Investigators have not been able to determine why the men targeted the Quail Creek residence. They did say if the remaining suspect survives he will likely face charges of burglary and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
His alleged girlfriend and the getaway vehicle were taken into police custody. She could face criminal charges too, police said.
The alleged victim, 28, is not expected to face criminal charges under the Texas Castle Doctrine which allows a homeowner to use deadly force to protect their property. However, the results still have to be submitted to the Bexar County District Attorney's office and a grand jury for review.
If you do mean “automatic” and not hair trigger semi-automatic you should probably keep that information to yourself (same for the “shortened barrel”). It is my understanding that unless you possess a federal license AR’s, classic Remingtons, Saiga 12’s, M2 50 cal., anything that shoots, are only legal in semi. Of course, maybe you have a license, in which case and in the words of Miss Emily Litella, “Never Mind”.

As to shotgun loads, mine is loaded with
You don’t know what a Remington Model 11 is?
Its basically identical to a Browning A-5
I don’t think they are illegal, even with a 20” barrel.
And they are called automatic though its an exaggeration, a term liberals get a woodie about.
I wonder if Eric Holder sold the AR15 to the perp. It wouldn’t surprise me one bit.
"Milkman!"
I know bad guys are inherently stupid but this is just weird.
By that token, whatever weapon the homeowner used would be an anti-assault weapon.
Exactly!
And a heck of a lot of fun. Shot one for the first time last Saturday. Killed some five gallon buckets real good.
Bigger buckshot! I want mine to yell "We're #1! We're #1!"
That load is very cool.
What do you call it?
Thanks for helping me learn something new for today. I assumed (my wife can confirm that my principal form of exercise is jumping to conclusions) the Remington 11 is a semi-auto 12 gauge without looking it up but did not relate it to the Browning A-5. Nice!
Wow! Might want to review your home defense strategies boys and girls......

Whoops! Accidently bump-fired......
I'm quite sure it's just a semi-auto...They are a dime a dozen anymore.
Some hunter's are now even using the AR-15 frame style rifles....
All my rifles could be used to "assault" something. And they are all wooden stocked "traditional" hunting rifles.
I suppose you missed my < / sarcasm > tag, eh?
