CHICAGOSmoking a joint once a week or a bit more apparently doesn't harm the lungs, suggests a 20-year study that bolsters evidence that marijuana doesn't do the kind of damage tobacco does.
The results, from one of the largest and longest studies on the health effects of marijuana, are hazier for heavy users -- those who smoke two or more joints daily for several years. The data suggest that using marijuana that often might cause a decline in lung function, but there weren't enough heavy users among the 5,000 young adults in the study to draw firm conclusions.
Still, the authors recommended "caution and moderation when marijuana use is considered."

Pile it higher and deeper. This "study" talks about one a week... find me a cigarette smoker who partakes once a week. The comparison is absolutely laughable on its face.
Any smoke, including that from wood fire cooking can and does cause lung damage. This "study" is agenda-driven B.S. pandering to those too stoned to grasp reality and those hoping to score big paydays trafficking pot if it were legalized.

those who smoke two or more joints daily for several years. Nobody could smoke the same two joints for years. What? Oh.

Dude died of cancer, not of grass smoking. Like all the other folks who die of lung cancer, not tobacco smoking.

This "study" talks about one a week... find me a cigarette smoker who partakes once a week. Again, different substances promote different usage patterns. They're just different, that's all.

Like all the other folks who die of lung cancer, not tobacco smoking. Well, Bob Marley's cancer started in his toe before it spread to the rest of his body. Do you suggest he was puffing joints through his toe?
To: cripplecreek
I smoked pot for long enough to know that it does harm the lungs. Only a moron would believe otherwise.

Exactly.
Who are you going to believe? A peer reviewed study conducted by a prestigiuos university or an anonymous poster on an internet forum?

From my college days, I do not remember anyone smoking one joint a week.According to the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration, 4.2% of Americans smoke more than once a year but less than once a month - so it's not hard to believe that some smoke only once a week.

What would happen if you didnt inhale like Billy? You should be beaten about the head and neck repeatedly for wasting weed.

The DEA and ONDCP will demand a retraction.

Misleading headline. The study wasn't conclusive - it "suggested" no harm for very, very light users.

Their analysis was funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse.Everyone is missing the point. This is a government funded study so it's settled science now, until the next government funded study. Then this one can go in the memory hole.

Exactly right, beyond and reasonable doubt. I am thankful every day I don’t smoke it. This study is mere propaganda.
I’ll bet it was run with this outcome in mind.
The lungs are designed for oxygen, not smoke.
