CHICAGOSmoking a joint once a week or a bit more apparently doesn't harm the lungs, suggests a 20-year study that bolsters evidence that marijuana doesn't do the kind of damage tobacco does.
The results, from one of the largest and longest studies on the health effects of marijuana, are hazier for heavy users -- those who smoke two or more joints daily for several years. The data suggest that using marijuana that often might cause a decline in lung function, but there weren't enough heavy users among the 5,000 young adults in the study to draw firm conclusions.
Still, the authors recommended "caution and moderation when marijuana use is considered."

Well then hell let’s light em up!
Ha!
Are there any studies telling us how much damage is done by smoking one cigarette a week? If not, this is no comparison.
The coughing fits are your body’s way of telling you it doesn’t know what’s good for it. LOL
God. He works in mysterious ways.
It’s not the lung function you worry about with long term marijuana use. I had some friends who smoked daily for years. Their memories suck now. Watching my father slide into alzheimer’s, I’m starting to see just how important one’s brain is. I’m sure it’s fun to get high but it’s also nice to have some brain left when you’re older. Be careful with fat soluble drugs, people.
Then explain Keith Richards. Even cancer doesn’t want to go in that body.
Somehow, I doubt this.
[COUGH]
LOL! I bet that if someone smoked one cigarette a week, they would not see any lung damage either, but who smokes once a week?
Give it up.
From my college days, I do not remember anyone smoking one joint a week. No one was drinking one beer or smoking one cigarette either. What a bunch of crap. This is a study from the same people who want outdoor smoking bans because second hand smoke will give you instant cancer.
"The dose makes the poison." Many things that harm us at a certain level of exposure do us precisely zero harm below some nonzero limit, as the body repels or counteracts the potential harm.
Dude died of cancer, not of grass smoking.
“I smoked pot for long enough to know that it does harm the lungs. Only a moron would believe otherwise.”
Logically I would agree. Pot does not have a filter and smoke seems like smoke to me (but hey, I’m not a doctor).
I think smoking is a disgusting habit and I don’t like anything about it but... if someone wants to smoke it’s their business. The way we treat smokers today is a crime.
In our society today, smoking pot is viewed more favorably than smoking cigarettes!
I wonder what OSHA says about a job that requires breating non-tobacco smoke for 20 minutes every week?
Turns out, on further analysis, that it did cause lung damage, but the researchers “just forgot, man”, while taking care of a bout of the munchies.
Well, that's the thing. Different substances/different activities associated with those substances. People who smoke cigarettes tend to smoke multiple cigarettes throughout the day; sometimes as much as multiple packs (20 cigs) per week. Even heavy MJ smokers don't approach that level. Nowhere near it.
Huffing spraypaint is also perfectly healty according to huffers, and who would know better than they?
I suppose eating a lot of it, would be just as bad as smoking a lot of it.
