The goal of U.S. and other sanctions against Iran is regime collapse, a senior U.S. intelligence official said, offering the clearest indication yet that the Obama administration is at least as intent on unseating Irans government as it is on engaging with it.

Hey this is brilliant. We’ve seen economic sanctions work numerous times in the past—haven’t we? Aren’t sanctions what toppled Saddam, the Taliban government in Afghanistan, Quadaffi, Noriega the Korean dictators and Japan (WWII)? No? What did I miss?

Thanks maquiladora.
"Hey, we don't claim that this approach will *work*, just that, from a public perspective, that's what we want people to believe. This will continue until Iran's mullahs have nuclear weapons, after which we'll be meeting eye to eye with them, the same way we've been negotiating a peaceful resolution to the Afghan conflict with the Taliban."
