Rick Perry casts Mitt Romney as a greedy Wall Street 'vulture'
Los Angeles Times ^ | Michael Finnegan

Fort Mill, S.C. --— Rick Perry, the lone Republican campaigning for president Tuesday in South Carolina, likened Mitt Romney to a greedy Wall Street “vulture” who was indifferent to the plight of workers who lost their jobs in deals that enriched his investment firm.

Seeking an early edge in South Carolina’s Jan. 21 primary .. the Texas governor also ridiculed Rick Santorum’s congressional spending record.

Perry started slashing away at Romney’s record as chief executive at Bain Capital on Monday, but was more caustic Tuesday ..

"They’re vultures that are sitting out there on the tree limb, waiting for the company to get sick, and then they sweep in, they eat the carcass, they leave with that, and they leave the skeleton,” Perry told about 100 seniors here at the Sun City retirement complex.

Perry took the analogy further in comments afterward to reporters.

“We have allowed these greedy people on Wall Street to take advantage” of small firms going through tough times, he said, alluding to the money that Bain collected in deals that put 150 people out of work .. in Gaffney, S.C., and cost steelworker jobs at a plant in Georgetown, S.C.

“Instead of trying to work with them to find a way to keep the jobs and to get them back on their feet, it’s all about how much money can we make, how quick can we make it, and then get out of town and find the next carcass to feed upon.”

Perry went on to castigate the Obama administration for allegedly failing to stop “self-dealing” on Wall Street.

“You’ve got to ask yourself, when the last three chiefs of staff for this president came out of Wall Street, you don’t think there’s a little bit of inside dealing going on there?” Perry asked reporters.

Rick Perry, Newt Gingrich; “Capitalism is bad.”

When we have entered a plane of existence where Mitt Romney is the champion of capitalism for the “right,” we truly are is serious trouble.

So this is what passes for a republican nowadays? Blaming greedy Wall Street for having the audacity to make money.

I support Rick Perry and gave him money. But things like this disgust me. Perry and Gingrich are revealing themselves to be populists, not conservatives. There is plenty of ammunition against Romney — the flip-flopping, Romneycare, etc. Slamming Bain is not a line of attack I agree with and it diminishes those who use it.

Smells like desperation.. What if Perry didnt debate like he’d recently been beaten around the head?.. Answer: He’d be leading right now.

Rush too both Perry and Newt to task today for this anti capitalism approach and thinks it will backfire on them both.

Santorum and Paul defended Bain. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

If Perry really wants to see Romney defeated ( as we all do), he should drop out of the race already and let his supporters go to Santorum rather than attack capitalism with leftist rhetoric.

Exactly how many primaries is Santorum set up in? Maybe he should take that into consideration and be the one to drop out.

That is why I beat my head against the wall every night. When Perry first was considering getting in over the summer, I thought, here is someone I can really support. A proven record on both social and economic issues. Did he have some issues that weren't conservative? Yes, but overall he was good. And from what I had heard, he was a good campaigner who came out on top in the cutthroat world of Texas politics. Then the debates came and I watched in horror. The man who could have had it all wrapped up by now if he even gave average debate performances absolutely destroyed himself.

Amen, brother.

Good post.

Rombots (who seem to be infilrating FR in anticipation of Newt’s $5 million ad blast against Willard in SC this week) should explain why American taxpayers have to pay for Willard’s business incompetence and greed?

Workers were denied the severance pay and health insurance they’d been promised, and their pension benefits were cut..

What’s more, a FEDERAL GOVERNMENT insurance agency had to PONY UP $44 MILLION TO BAIL OUT the company’s underfunded pension plan.

Nevertheless, Bain profited on the deal, receiving $12 million on its $8 million initial investment and at least $4.5 million in consulting fees.

Perry’s in the right place to talk about Willard Gekko.

A big steel mill located in South Carolina was closed down and the workers lost everything when Willard’s Wall Street Raiders came to town.

Hopefully Perry and Gingrich can find a couple of them and take them around with them to tell their story. This is just getting interestig.

“Allowing these companies to come in and loot the, loot people’s jobs, loot their pensions, loot their ability to take care of their families and I will suggest they’re just vultures,” Perry said during a townhall at a retirement community here. “They’re vultures that sitting out there on the tree limb waiting for the company to get sick and then they swoop in, they eat the carcass. They leave with that and they leave the skeleton.”

Unreal isn't it. Perry and Newt attacking Romney for being a successful capitalist.

Romney is awful, but the one decent thing he has going for him is his work at Bain. Hearing some of our own, supposedly conservative, candidates attack free market capitalism as if they were occupywallstreet rabble is outright disgusting.
