In a press release this afternoon, Club for Growth criticized Newt Gingrich for his attacks on Mitt Romneys career at Bain Capital, calling them unbecoming a Reagan Conservative. Club for Growths statement:
Yesterday, Gingrich said Those of us who believe in free markets and those of us who believe that in fact the whole goal of investment is entrepreneurship and job creation we find it pretty hard to justify rich people figuring out clever legal ways to loot a company, leaving behind 1,700 families without a job. Gingrichs attack was echoed that same day that by the Democratic National Committee, which also attacked Romney for his job creation record at Bain Capital.
Newt Gingrichs attacks on Mitt Romneys record at Bain Capital are disgusting, said Club for Growth President Chris Chocola. There are a number of issues for Mitt Romneys Republican opponents to attack him for, but attacking him for making investments in companies to create a profit for his investors is just wrong. Because of the efforts of Bain Capital, major companies like Staples, Dominos Pizza, and the Sports Authority now employ thousands of people and have created billions in wealth in the private economy. Attacking Governor Romney for participating in free-market capitalism is just beyond the pale for any purported Reagan Conservative. Newt Gingrich should stop his attacks on free markets and apologize to Governor Romney for them.
My candidate isn’t in the race!
Newt makes a great debater and historian but he is making Obama’s class warfare case a platform for conservatives. Newt’s ego is getting in the way of staying on point and making small business folks like me turn against him.
How do you feel about “free trade” please?
When I hear the name “Club for Growth”, I think of Huntsman speaking Chinese at the debate.
Works for me.
“So now, its ends justifying means. And like you I blame him not one whit. Let Newt do what viscerally feels right to Newt. If thats retribution and letting the chips fall where they may to take down scumbag Romney, so be it.”
Yep, we’re on the same page. Newt is letting it all out...and it just could work.
The one that I really hope, though, is that if it works for him, he takes that strategy straight through November.
And now it is starting to look suspiciously - - and disappointingly - - like Santorum is auditioning to be Mitt's VP.
Bankrupcies and government bailouts, while investors walk away with millions.
You think that's free enterprise?
>> “we find it pretty hard to justify rich people figuring out clever legal ways to loot a company, leaving behind 1,700 families without a job.”
‘Conniving’ is the correct adjective, not ‘rich’.
How is the message that capitalism is bad going to work against Obama? That is what Obama has been saying for 3 years? And now Newt's got his back.
Can’t tell yet.
One day does not a trend make.
I’m not making any pro-Santorum posts at the moment though.
Gingrich was on a Board of Advisors for Forstmann Little, an equity firm that did the same thing as Bain.
When you are the guy who has been the greatest architect of governmental change in U.S. history, where would you do your work? In Bumfuk Egypt?
Urban Dictionary: Bumfuk, Egypt
The most remote, awful, backward, filthy, hostile place or town anyone can imagine; a location just this side of hell.
Well, I guess that describes Washington D.C. doesn't it? Can't count Newt out for trying.
A lot of people are one a lot of ‘Boards’.
Mitt Romney for all intents and purposes, was Bain.
Liberals will destroy him in the general as Gordon Gecko’s evil twin.
Not a lot of people make over a million acting as a "historian" to the central organization in the housing bubble.
You clearly are anti-Gingrich.
Now we just need to understand why.
Who do you support please?
A most unfair statement. Why do you swirl in the toilet bowl of baloney? Who are you shilling for?
no...more like newt is done so he wants to take down romney so he can keep getting $$$
bring himself down? he is in third and some states fourth
What so unfair about it. Gingrich has just launched an assualt on Capitalism worthy of Zuccotti Park in a GOP primary. What are us freedom loving people to do, just ignore it. How about his sabotaging of Paul Ryan a few months back, we should ignore that to. A few months back i wouldn’t have believed it, but the anti-Romney crowd is going at him from the Left. This has turned into the most insane GOP primary fight in the history of the party. It will set back conservatism decades, and it was all self inflicted, by candidates and supporters both. Sometimes I fill like I’m the last supporter of the Capitalist system left in the country.
