STARKVILLE, Miss., Jan 9 (Reuters) - Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour pardoned four convicted murderers who worked at the Governor's Mansion, releasing them from prison in the final days of his term in office, state officials said on Monday.

At least Mark Sanford disgraced himself with something fun when he went out.
What is it about our Southern governors?
I think we know what Haley Barbour really is: “a George Ryan Republican,” which can’t even sell in IL. His compassion, like that of Ryan, does not extend to the victims.
Sounds like one of these guys has pictures of Haley in bed with a young boy....
Those who release confessed murderers should themselves be jailed.
Unbelievable. I had always had some respect for Haley Barbour. But after reading what this David Glenn Gatling did, how he admitted to it...it’s open and closed. And all respect is lost.
Apparently there is some kind of tradition in Mississippi that if a con works on the Governor’s Mansion grounds, they get paroled.
BRAVO SIERRA, traditions like that, which lead to outcomes like this are something even a politician should be able to figure out.
And now to read that he pardoned three more killers.
Unbelievable and insane.
The first one is more than bad enough...it is open and closed. Crime of passion BS aside...he did what he did, killed her as she held the baby.
Barbour should not only never be elected to anything again...if any one of these convicts so muich as commits any crime, particularly harming someone else, Barbour should have to take responsibility...and I am sure he will civilly if not criminally.
All those liberals trying to protect murders from their consequences are going to come to Barbers side and support him, right?
Ray Blanton would be proud.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot???
Ah, that doesn’t seem to be the case. One of the victims was shot in the back in a restaurant. Hard to believe there were no witnesses.
In any case there is something positive that comes out of this. Haley Barbour has pandoned himself out of national politics. Thank God he outed himself before we went down the Scott road again.
The RINO—or worse—rot runs deep and wide in the GOP.
I hope Haley Barbour rots in hell for this.

At one point, I probably would have voted for Barbour if he had gotten in the race. Just goes to show how people can fool you.
Free Republic used to be better than to just knee-jerk believe what some liberal rag says about a conservative. Now I don’t know about these cases, but I do know that I don’t just automatically believe what the Chicago Trib says about them.
I think I’d like to read the requests for the pardons, and get Barbour’s side of it before throwing him under the bus. Or do we just throw folks under buses first now?
Damn, this place used to be a lot more fun. Where’d all the cool people go?
Unbelievable! It is hard to fathom. What is his explanation? Maybe he was giving them a head start? Ain’t sporting to shoot ‘em in a box.
Can someone name three conservative accomplishments of the Barbour administration?
I derive great comfort from my belief there is an ultimate judge. I fervantly pray Barbour is not allowed to pass through the Pearly Gates.
