If you are looking for a conservative alternative to Romney and had to choose today between Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry or Rick Santorum, which one would you choose?
Final results of the Free Republic 1/9/2012 non-Romney Conservative Straw Poll (see post 548)
Newt | 225 | 59.7% |
Perry | 77 | 20.4% |
Santorum | 75 | 19.9% |
Definitely Newt
Newt. Warts and all.
Santorum.
to quote him - if you like me, but think I can’t win, vote for me and I can win.
Rick Santorum. This is just a PRIMARY.
Newt, but not an easy choice.

For once, before the light of liberty is extinguished, the world needs to hear the ideas of liberty of Jefferson and Madison debated and defended against the counterfeit ideas advocated by the current President.
Only a scholar who has the founding ideas on instant recall will be able to expose, rebuke and repudiate the siren song of "redistribution" and "helping" that Obama's foundations in "other" ideas have provided him.
Jefferson's intellect enabled him to be the one the geniuses of America's founding generation called upon to argue on their behalf against King George III.
Much has been made about the so-called "intellect" of Obama. A debate with a historian who has studied civilization's history of liberty versus tyranny, especially America's noble history, may be just the spark needed to relight the flame of passion for liberty in America's youth.
Surely, if exposed, they will not choose dependency and mediocrity.
Rick Santorum. But I’ll take Newt Gingrich
Rick Perry is an Al Gore-worshipping confederate. States have rights to protect them from the federal government, but individuals have rights to protect them from the state. Rick doesn’t think so.

1st - Newt
2nd - Santorum
3rd - Perry
you opine: “Santorum, cant trust Newt after his globaloney warming stints with Pelousy. If he is sooooo inteligent then why would he not look up the DATA, the real data! Their models DONT work!”
He DID “look up the data.” Why don’t YOU look up the data on the results of that, It’s been out there 3 years now. I’ll save you time and effort - posting link below. (BTW, you misspelled intelligent - LOL)
If Freepers are so intelligent - why do so many continue to ignore Newt’s 2009 testimony in the House - ON the record. (Match that to any of the other candidates per-campaign.)
Now you have the facts - it will be interesting to see if you ignore them and continue posting half-truths - are you an honest Freeper or a deliberate Half-Truther?

A brief analysis of the replies here indicates a three-way tie.
Newt.
Newt and no other candidate comes close to having his abilities.

I honestly don't think it will be that difficult to go after Obama. McCain was such a p*ssy and refused to remotely go after him. He's attacked republicans harder. I fear Romney will be the same way.
However, I don't think Santorum, Perry, nor Newt would have a problem at all calling him out.
The only problems I foresee are if Newt goes after Obama on Obamacare and TARP. Obama will simply respond that Newt supported it, too, and that he was just following his lead on the matter. Other than that, I think Newt would school him.
People need to remember that when Obama's off of that teleprompter, he's extremely vulnerable. That also shows us how bad of a candidate McCain was.
Using Democrat math??
Newt
