Nope. Dogs can be trained to safely ride in the back of pick-ups. If you are going to worry about dogs worry about all the ones hit daily cause no one keeps them up. I would still be aganist a generalized law that all dogs must be fenced etc. Depends on where you live. And I hate seeing dogs killed on the road. I counted 5 one day on a 30 mile strip of interstate. I have counted at least 10 deer. Not gonna stop that.

Point well taken. That’s my main problem with Romey - he seems too robotic. I can’t help thinking of J.R. Bob Dobbs.

I understand why some people do not think this is horrible, but I will tell you, it is an indication of lack of empathy—an inability to feel. My guess is the Mitt treats his dogs like any other prop in his life. It’s there for the family Christmas card picture. He is “supposed” to have a pretty dog. But aside from that, it is merely a pain in the ass.

Good call. He later gave that dog away when they moved.

If you're not familiar with the Amirault case, Google it. He let Gerald rot in prison when he and everyone else in the state knew he was innocent.

We're going to agree to disagree. Dogs can be trained to turn lights on and off. But 99.99% of people don't train them to do that. With 100,000 dogs being killed every year by falling/jumping out of pickup trucks, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say people aren't training their dogs to ride safely in trucks either. I care about these poor animals who are NOT being trained or properly protected from the dangers of riding in the back of pickup trucks.

Deer being killed on the road has nothing to do with dogs riding in backs of trucks. Deer are wild animals. Dogs are owned pets. Humans have a responsibility to protect their dogs. That has nothing at all to do with Deer being killed on interstate highways. And for the record, approx. 4000 Deer are involved in auto accidents every DAY in this country. But that still has nothing to do with dogs in trucks, or Romney putting his dog on the roof of his car.

Anyone who's never been a father driving with five children and a dog is not qualified to comment on this story. Did you hear that laugh? It's the maniacal cackle of a harried father/husband, driven to near madness by his family. I've heard it--from my own father, who on countless occasions drove five children and a dog on various excursions.

Judge not, lest ye be judged.

Much more room in the back of a pickup than in that little crate, and the dog can duck down well below the edge. I’d be claustrophobic in that little carrier.

I wouldn’t treat a cat that way, let alone a dog.

If you can’t care for the kids/pet don’t HAVE ‘em. When you laugh like a maniac it’s too late.

1. The dog had diarrhea.
2. The family had to drive a long way, with a dog who had diarrhea.

I once had to drive 200 miles in a VW with a dog who had just had a run-in with a skunk. If I had had a dog carrier, I probably would have strapped him to the roof also. It would have been safer than the way I was forced to drive, with my head out the window.

The dog got diarrhea from the conditions that Romney put him in, it was a symptom of being on the roof on a 12 hour drive, it wasn’t the reason that he was put up there.

When Jesus was crucified the temple was opened - no more secrets.
The mormon secret temple is vile and totally unBiblical.

My dogs love riding in the car, head out of the window breathing fast, fresh air. How is this any different than being in a cage, secured on top of the auto?

This is the stupidest thread on FR that I’ve seen in long time. Those thinking this is hard on the dogs are either ignorant or don’t have dogs. Go over to mediamatters and join them.

No, your reply is the dumbest reply I have read on FR in a long time. If you don’t think there’s a difference between being in a car and on top of a car, I suggest you try it with your kids or maybe Granny. I’m sure they both like sticking their heads out the window too.

You Romney supporters are very odd people.

Yeah you’re right - In a car packed with people they should have let the dog ride in the car and put granny or one of the kids in the secured cage on top...do you understand how stupid you are for making this comment? No, I don’t suppose you are...
