I had to go to the other room real quick to make sure my wife wasn't posting under a new name.
My feelings are EXACTLY the same. I have to stare at a computer screen a large portion of the day. I'll be dammed if I'll stare at the blasted thing to engage in one of my favorite pleasures - reading. The sooner these stupid electronic books 15 minutes of fame is up and they are all in the landfill, the better!
Have you even tried one with e-ink? I am not talking about the backlit tablets like iPad etc. that people think you can read books on. I am talking about the original e-ink style Kindles etc.
I just can’t read paper books anymore. E-ink is actually better for your eyes than paper books, especially if reading outside - much less glare. The light weight is so much better than holding up a paper book. The ability to make notes, look up words and more on the fly, trumps anything with paper books.
Sorry, you don’t like it, but I’m not going back.
Opposite for me. Arthritis makes it almost impossible for me to hold and manage a physical book for any length of time. I LOVE the Kindle. I can even read laying down in bed, the pages are very easy to “turn.”
I also spend a lot of time on the computer, but to me Kindle is not anything like using a computer screen. In fact, some say, why buy a Kindle when you can read ebooks on your computer? Nope. NOT the same AT ALL!
Forgot to add that Kindle also makes it very easy to change the text size as needed. Sometimes I even read without wearing my glasses! Yet no need to buy special texts.

Hear, hear!
lol
I feel some what the same. I like the heft of a book in my hands.
BUT
With the Kindle and similar devices I can now have that which I have desired since my teens, a one hundred thousand plus volume library. I almost wiggle with joy every time I think about it.
Years ago I read a book set in the future. It had people finding discs all over the place and they had no idea what they where. They finally figured out the discs where books but they had no way of reading them having lost the needed technology.
I hate to tell you this... but, e-readers are not going ANYWHERE... but, books might me.
I was a slow adopter.... I share many of the same feelings you have. But, I've come to love me Kindle.
One reason is... I can INCREASE the font size if I want.. no need (or, less need) for reading glasses. :-)
But, the main reason is.. I can have ALL of my books with me.. ALL of the time. I travel alot. That kindle slides into my computer bag easily... War & Peace is a BIT heavier.
I do miss my books... but, I'm NEVER going back.
