-Charles Barkley calls his Weight Watchers deal 'a scam' in open mic slip

-Barkley, colleagues didn't know they were live

-Also rip Atlanta Hawks; broadcaster grouses 'This game is terrible'

Charles Barkley would probably be the first to admit that there are two things which are always dangerous to put in front of him: a live microphone and a plate of greasy food.

And Thursday night they combined forces to create a fantastic moment of brutally awkward commentary.

According to Deadspin, while the game he was broadcasting was in a commercial break on TNT but still live on NBA.tv, Charles told his TNT colleagues that his new gig as a Weight Watchers spokesman "is a bigger scam" than being paid to watch sports.

Said Sir Charles: "I ain't never missed a weigh-in. Never going to. I'm feeling much better. But I ain't giving away no money. I'm not giving away no free money. I thought this was the greatest scam going, getting paid for watching sports. This Weight Watchers thing is a bigger scam."

His comment drew laughs from broadcasters Reggie Miller and Kevin Harlan who all continued talking for more than a minute before realizing they were live.

For once I’ll agree with Barkley. What a great idea weight watchers, jenny craig and the others are. Selling food to fat people, it’s like selling drugs to addicts, but it’s legal. Wish I’d thought of it first

I think you are right.

He means that he is losing weight on the program, and they are paying him good money for doing so.

A Scam? Jeez, just so the Montel William Money thing is a good deal. Can't believe people would try and rip off the naive.

He’s a fat disgusting bigoted slob When I saw he was on for the NCAA Tournament I made certain not to watch the studio shows.

If he was 1/1000th as cool as he tries to be . . .

Actually, he never did. Although he stopped the Weight Watchers stuff after a year, or so.

He was somewhat abnormally disciplined. Much more than me. He had been a Marine F4 pilot in Vietnam and had 2 masters degrees.

Someone with my more average discipline habits would have gained it back.
