Ouch: Rick Santorum’s Young Nephew Endorses Ron Paul
Mediaite ^ | 01/05/2012 | Joe Bershad

The young people of today love them some Ron Paul. He's like Kelly Clarkson of GOP candidates. Hell, he's so much like the pop star Kelly Clarkson, she endorsed him. However, until now, many people have attempted to just brush off this youth support as nothing but a bunch of stoners. An endorsement he received today might sting a little more though. It comes from the 19 year old nephew of Rick Santorum.

The nephew, John Garver, wrote a column over at the Daily Caller in which he says Americans should only elect his uncle if they “want another big-government politician who supports the status quo to run our country.” Ooh, that hurts.

RELATED: Rick Santorum: ‘Ron Paul Is Disgusting’

He continues:

“It is because of this inability of status quo politicians to recognize the importance of our individual liberties that I have been drawn to Ron Paul. Unlike my uncle, he does not believe that the American people are incapable of forming decisions. He believes that an individual is more powerful than any group (a notion our founding fathers also believed in).

Ron Paul seems to be the only candidate trying to win the election for a reason other than simply winning the election.”

Popular Tumblrer Stacy Lambe linked to the column saying that he knows Garver’s family and that, in the extended Santorum clan, they are the “black sheep.”

If they weren’t before, they certainly are now.

You can read the rest of Garver’s piece here.

Every family has weak genes somewhere.

My brother and two nephews are voting for Obama, again. Talk about stuck on stupid.

Completely, totally agree. Feel sorry for the 25,000 NASA folks that got the axe too. NASA was not the problem either, but that does not change the fact we are broke and we had better do something, like maybe elect a small constitutional government guy, about it. We have a very small window to address spending, if we do nothing we will collapse just like the USSR.

We do not have 4 more years.

I think you're correct that we don't have four more years. We certainly won't have that long if we end up with four more years of Obama.

Unfortunately, I'm not confident that any of the Republican candidates understand what is truly necessary to restore us to even semi-sound financial footing. We should be immediately eliminating entire federal departments. The easy ones, Energy, Education, and most of the EPA should disappear tomorrow.

The second front in the war on bloated government should involve removing all of the incentives that cause it to grow in the first place. No more pensions for members of Congress, period. Elected office was never meant to be a lifetime gravy train.

Every bill should be required to include a clear citation of the specific constitutional provision that authorizes it.

And net receivers of unearned government benefits should not be able to vote until they get off the public dole. I know this one is pretty much politically impossible, but it gets at the heart of the problem. If we don't do something drastic to prevent corrupt politicians from literally buying votes with other people's money, the supply of "free stuff" will run dry anyway as the whole thing collapses.

Depending on how many siblings you have, it’s likely you have Paul or even Obama voters among them. If I were on the R ticket I have a lot of relatives who couldn’t get over that R enough to vOte for me.

At Mr. Garver’s age we were voraciously reading Rand, WF Buckley, Jr., James Burnham, and Russell Kirk. We realized we were to the far-right of Barry Goldwater. LOL

Over time we mellowed and I’m sure this young man will as well, given time.

If the RNC/old guard doesn’t start courting these independent voices/voters ...they better think hard and long about the consequences.

Not wanting Israel dictate our foreign policy is not being anti-Semitic.

Indeed. How many of the FReepers who throw around charges of anti-Semitism would agree that criticizing the Mexican government is anti-Latino?

That is a regional characteristic of the north

Down here so few white liberals that most families are conservative with an outlier or two at most

My large clan of 100 or so in MS, TN, NC, TX may sport 2 libs...seriously

Good points....while I am a supporter of reasonable Israel in a sea of madness

I do not agree with the hyperbole “biggest ally”

That would actually be Britain

Israel is like one of our biggest dependents who does have ears on the ground for us in that region and makes our toys even better sometimes

Folks get carried away with holy land love

But Paul is naive....that is undeniable to me

I’ll be more specific.

Skipping over his blame-America-first that borders on trutherism, I’ll present his most recent meanderings into madness....

http://www.americanthinker.com/2011/12/ron_pauls_foreign_policy_exposed.html

Hubby and I were watching this debate and we both, literally, gasped when we heard him say this...

“But to declare war on 1.2 billion Muslims, and say all Muslims are the same — this is dangerous talk. Yeah, there are some radicals. But they don’t come here to kill us because we’re free and prosperous. Do they go to Switzerland and Sweden? I mean, that’s absurd. If you think that is the reason, we have no chance of winning this. They come here, and explicitly explain it to us, CIA has explained it to us — it said they come here and they want to do us harm because we’re bombing them....”

un-freaking-believable.

"they want to do us harm because we’re bombing them....”

He was probably just quoting the 911 report. The 911 report pretty much says the same thing. And Bin Laden pretty much said that too.

We may have very good reasons for invading and bombing the people of the middle east. Of that I have no doubt, but when you invade and bomb it is not realistic to expect them not to try to harm you in return. If you want to go to war, fine, but don’t ask all surprised when the enemy fights back.

"The 'cry havoc, and let slip the dogs of war'

Ronald Reagan, a wise leader of men, declined engagement in the middle east even after the terrorist attack on the Marines in Lebanon. Sadly the Bushes have entrenched us in the endless wars of the middle east. The dogs of war are loose. Where will they run? What damage will they will do? No one knows.
