On Wednesday, President Barack Obama made five recess appointments of dubious legality and faced tremendous backlash for a perceived circumvention of the law.

Later that evening, Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer offered a strong condemnation of the move.

On “Special Report” on the Fox News Channel, Krauthammer said this was par for the course for the Obama administration ­ “the end of a long string of lawless actions,” he said

“I think it’s not about the appointee or even about the agency,” Krauthammer said. “I think this is a lawless action by the president ­ the end of a long string of lawless actions. It’s banana republic style. The president saying I won’t let Congress stop me, actually. But it’s in Constitution that you have to have the Senate approval, the Senate ­ he can only make recess appointment if the Senate is in recess. It is not in recess.”

Krauthammer explained there was even legal precedent from his own administration that required the Senate to be out of session for three days, a requirement Obama didn’t meet.

“His own Justice Department argued last year before the Supreme Court that the Senate has to be out of session for three days. It has not been,” he noted.

its a tragedy - its our only recourse to stop an unlawful president

levin said a recess requires congress to vote for and approve the recess - which was not done - but obama decided it does not apply to him

direct and blatant violation of the constitution - and boehner won't stop him

he has decided to piss away another 1.2 trillion using this unlawful tactic - and nothing is done about it

wish i could redefine 70 mph speed limit to 80 mph - think i could get away with that?

but something that can crash the country, nothing is done about it

CFPB begins oversight of payday lenders (Cordray starts work today- attacks private student lenders)

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — One day after being appointed through a controversial presidential maneuver, the new head of a consumer watchdog agency announced he is launching a program immediately to supervise a broad new swath of businesses including payday lenders, private student lenders and local mortgage lenders.

“We will begin dealing face-to-face with payday lenders, mortgage servicers, mortgage originators, private student lenders, and other firms that often compete with banks but have largely escaped any meaningful federal oversight,” said Richard Cordray, the newly appointed chief of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Any legal challenge to the Obama appointment is likely to come from one of the businesses coming under new scrutiny, which could claim the CFPB doesn’t have the legal authority to regulate them.

Senate Republicans had been refusing to approve Cordray on grounds that the agency was too powerful, structurally flawed and lacked accountability to Congress.

Until Cordray was approved, no regulator had oversight authority over a large cross-section of the consumer-credit-product industry known as “non-banks,” which, in the run-up to the 2008 financial crisis, escaped regulation of any sort.

These nonbank firms include payday lenders — which offer cash loans at steep fees to typically low-income individuals — mortgage-modification consultants and smaller state and local mortgage brokers, many of which originated “toxic” subprime mortgages that set the stage for the crisis of 2008.

I so want Liz Cheney but realistically I’m going with Ryan/Rubio.

Well, not sure about Liz, but I believe that Ryan and Rubio both want to accomplish something in their current jobs instead of being VP, so I like sloop's idea of putting Gingrich in there if he doesn't get the nomination so that he can be PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE!! Woo Hoo!!
