POLITICO's Ginger Gibson reports:
Newt Gingrich still won't congratulate Mitt Romney for winning the Iowa caucuses.
At a news conference in Concord, N.H., Gingrich was asked by CBS correspondent Dean Reynolds why he congratulated Rick Santorum but not Romney.
Gingrich stared at the reporter and raised his eyebrows in silence, eventually drawing laughter from some of the reporters. "Because I know you would be a man of great professionalism, I know that's a rhetorical question. And a good one," Gingrich said.
During his speech in Des Moines last night, Gingrich visibly seethed at mention of Romney, who along with his supporters ran a barrage of attack ads against the former speaker. Romney said he'd spoken with every GOP rival last night except Gingrich.

Santorum is a nice guy. Gave a good speech I hear, but Folks, I’m sorry, he’s not my idea of what this country needs.
I think Newt wants to make it clear that it’s him and Romney...It was smart and actually polite the way he did it by not saying anything he’d regret.

I wouldn’t congratulate Willard either. First its not necessary since Newt didn’t come in 2nd and after getting slimed by Romney for weeks on end I wouldn’t congratulate him for it. I think Newt will have plenty to say to Mitt on Sat night. Can’t wait.

The mindless - often vicious - criticism of less than perfect candidates, which is all of them, on FR is astonishing.
And for the record, Newt not calling Romney doesn’t bother me. I suspect things are about to get nasty between those two.
