I am positive McCains nomination will hurt Romney, not help. What? Is McCain running for the nomination? When did he announce? Sure, that would hurt everyone if he won; not just Romney. Or, did you mean McCain's endorsement?

"I think she'll wait until the Gingrich vs. Santorum battle goes, then endorse the winner over Romney."
I'm not sure if that is the case. It seemed to get a little personal between her and Gingrich in the last debate. Not sure if she will come out and endorse Gingrich over anyone else.
To: dead
She can't possibly endorse Romney
Are you sure? She never attacked the worst of the worst but no problem with the others. She's looking for her career boost from the GOP elite, not from the TP.

It was entertaining to watch Morris trying to spin this BS this morning.
Right now, as it stands, if Perry drops out too, Romney is the one that should be worried.

"the left will try and entice Paul to go third party and split our vote."
They can try to do that but it won't work IMO. Paul is aiming for a prominent place at the convention and get some concessions in the platform when it's written IMO. He won't go third party because his son Rand will be persona non gratis in the Republican party. Rand would pay for the sins of his father forever and never rise in the party.

Because Newt was leading mitt. Whoever was a threat at the time to mitt, she attacked. Perry, then Cain, then Newt and never the POS.

” Don’t settle when we can have a true conservative.”
We can’t WIN with a true conservative. That’s the point. No informed public.
Anyone who thought Dole and McCain had the charisma to beat Clinton & Obama, were sadly out of touch. Presidential elections are not about politics. Theyre about winning over the stupids and the uniformeds in the american voting public who will go with who makes them feel good. Male, Personality, Good Looks, Charm and Policy in that order. Dole, McCain and none of the current candidates fit that bill except one. The stupid vote will rule no matter what we want. And theres nothing we can do about it. So, beating Obama has to be done by putting up a candidate who can compete with Obama on that same level. Its not policy, its not the economy, its not issues. Again, sad, unfortunate, but true. The other side is laughing their arses off at our stupidity because they know what kind of voting public they are dealing with. We refuse to acknowledge it. They pray we dont see it and put up another personality dud.

Yes, I agree. Right now the field has definitely winnowed. Ron Paul is not a serious candidate. So it will be Gingrich and Santorum against Romney. With the problem (for Romney) that he's pissed Gingrich off so much that it appears he has one mission. To bring down Romney. Yes, though Santorum has his obstacles to overcome (money, organization), things are falling his way.

I'm not one that believes she did it to protect Mitt. She did it because she was in it to win it. She knew that her votes were the conservative votes. In order to get those votes she couldn't get them from Mitt's supporters. She was trying to line herself up to be the alternative to Mitt. It didn't work.

By George - I think you’ve got it!!
If the ‘drop-outs’ would embrace your assessment and lend their support and loud vocals to the last ‘anti-Romney’ standing - it could make a difference.

Remember when Cain’s campaign came out and blamed Perry when Cain was first accused by those ladies? How could he possibly have thought that - that’s Mitt’s mo/ his style. Cain was never a good judge of character and will probably endorse him. That really po’d me at the time and I guess it still does since I’m bringing it up.
To: sodpoodle
Hard to figure why Santorum is now surging - he did so poorly in the debates In what way? He may be a bit intense at time, but he comes across as knowledgeable on anything put out there.

Well, all of this is your opinion and you're welcome to it. I happen to disagree. What's that say about your candidate when his only quality that appeals to you is this mistaken belief (IMO) that he's the only one that can win? Yes, there is the stupid element in our society that votes for the best looking or coolest candidate. I still contend they are not the overriding factor. They're probably cancelled out by the neo nazis that will vote for the Republican alternative because he's the white guy in the race. History has shown that economics is the most overriding factor in electing the President. FDR being the exception. If our candidate keeps the focus on Obama's job performance over the past three years, he will win IMO. Especially when the 9% unemployment numbers continue month after month.
To: ScottinVA
hm.. none of Bachmanns voters will go to Mitt, but some of Perry’s might.
Bachmann and Perry both poll about 6% nationally... so add 10 to the not Romney’s and 2 to the Romney
To: sodpoodle
She should never have run in the first place! Yes she had a right to run, but it was totally ill advised, and she did harm to the outcome.
But yes she had a absolute right to run, no question about it. Just like I keep hearing that the Muslims have a right to a mosk at ground zero.

We have been studying the candidates - perhaps it’s time to study all the ‘campaign operatives’. I know there must be a FReeper out there who has a list of the ‘campaign switchers’.
i.e. those who abandoned Newt, those who left one candidate for another.
How were they vetted? Were they all true believers in their candidate - or- were they available to the highest bidder? Who is paying and moving them around the chess board?

Bachmann is the only one in the race that is conservative on all levels. Her voice was a great pull to bring the party back in line. I will never regret that she speaks for me during this cycle.
If she is out, I hope she runs again and advances...assuming there is anything left of the country after everyone elects their favorite "conservative" candidate with the best line of fake baloney or the best plastic hair look.
