Influential Iowa conservative activist Bob Vander Plaats called this evening for Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry to drop their bids for the Republican presidential nomination in order to maximize Rick Santorum's chances of defeating Mitt Romney in a one-on-one matchup.
"The last thing Mitt Romney wants is to go one-on-one with Rick Santorum," said Vander Plaats, who endorsed Santorum in December. "He wants to have a multiple-candidate field. So I think some of these candidates need to reassess where they're at tonight."

Bachmann yes, Perry should stay in.
Totally agreed. At this point, Bachmann and Perry do nothing but siphon votes away from the anti-Romneys. A vote for Bachmann/Perry is a vote for Romney.
As should RuPaul. But he won’t.
It almost sounds like Perry just stepped out. Hope not, but he said he’s going back to TX to “reassess” or something.
I agree.
I agree. It sounds like Perry at least will drop out tomorrow. He is going home to “assess”. Anytime you hear those words it means they are leaning towards dropping out. President Santorum is AWESOME.
the newties think the votes would go to them...um ya
As Bachmann will also likely be dropping out tomorrow, this is a huge boost to both Santorum and Gingrich.
To all who have posted that Iowa isn't important, the results tonight have changed the playing field and have given we Conservatives a real chance at winning the nomination.
I’m not sure about Perry’s chances one way or the other either.
What I am, relatively, sure about is that candidates need to get out sooner than they did last time or we will vote - split our way to Romney as the nominee.
Considering that Iowa, in the great scheme of things isn't that important, lets see how things play out. At this point, I'm likely to vote for Perry or Gingrich, if they get the nod.
But this crap of a vote for x is a vote for y is way beyond stupid. People should vote who they feel best represents them, and let the chips fall where they may.

Huntsman is not dropping out. He’s betting his whole enchilada on New Hampshire. Last poll I saw there had him just ahead of Newt.
This was before Iowa and before whomever is dropping out drops. Be interesting to see what the poll result is in a few days.
BVP is right as usual.
Perry and Michele should endorse a fellow conservative.
Newt or Santorum. I don’t care which one as long as it hurts Willard.
Bachmann and Perry drop out it helps Newt.
Yes.
Ron Paul should have run for the libertarian party like his buddy Gary Johnson.
Mark Levin is right on this issue. It's time we stop letting the establishment and the elites pick our leaders. Iowa ain't S*** in the scheme of things and has been consistently wrong.
