Ryan Jerome was enjoying his first trip to New York City on business when the former Marine Corps gunner walked up to a security officer at the Empire State Building and asked where he should check his gun.
That was when Jeromes nightmare began. The security officer called police and Jerome spent the next two days in jail.
The 28-year-old with no criminal history now faces a mandatory minimum sentence of three and a half years in prison. If convicted, his sentence could be as high as fifteen years.
Jerome has a valid concealed carry permit in Indiana and visited New York believing that it was legal to bring his firearm. He was traveling with $15,000 worth of jewelry that he planned to sell.
The online gun-law information Jerome read was inaccurate...

I was not referring to firearms ownership, carry, purchasing etc. I spent a LOT of years in Seattle, and the ‘burbs nearby, before moving up into the mountains at retirement, with an FFL with zero problems. It is the other ‘rat/liberal/commie crap I was speaking of. Sorry for not separating those areas. My fault.
how dumb are these people from out of state!
I have a full carry in NYS and am not allowed in NYC with a gun!
These stories drive me crazy with how stupid people are. Yes the laws are nazi like, but Jesus Christ people - research the laws before hand!
I seriously do not understand people researching before traveling to other states w a firearm.
I live in NYC area. Good luck on that. With this garbage happening so much lately - sorry - I am beginning to think southerners are morons.
do you people not research how stupid our laws are? do they not read the newspaper or pay attention?
WTF is wrong w people!
Actually, not researching! Like others said, I would first off never ask where to “check” my gun, this aint the base where the only ones have guns are the Islamic terrorists, I am sorry, criminals in Texas.
And even though I carry here, I would never think that I could carry in New York, ever. Democrat state, gun control mayor. That marine had a major case of the dumbass
My advice to any gun owner, even if you posses a concealed carry permit.Stay out of New York City. Its just not worth the aggravation and the legal expense.
These stories are driving me crazy lately. I live here and have a FULL CARRY for NYS. But guess what! My permit does not apply to NYC and I live here!
If I were to even think about traveling w a firearm I would double, triple, and quadruple check the laws of where I was going.

Simple local Carry Laws... (Rules) should not carry a penalty more than a small fine, like driving 30 in a 20 ...
The Second Amendment applies even to our Idiot NY brethren...
I can’t believe nor do I understand why or how such a basic RIGHT can be denied to anyone, anywhere
If you do not understand that... you are the fool
TT
Every law-enforcement and public official having taken an oath to enforce the law is a felon; I can prove it in just a few easy steps.
1) The Declaration of Independence is Law: http://uscode.house.gov/download/pls/organiclaws.txt
2) The Declaration of Independence asserts the right to overthrow the government:
“But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.”
3) US CODE, TITLE 18, PART I, CHAPTER 115, § 2385 — “Advocating overthrow of Government” says, in part:
Whoever knowingly or willfully advocates, abets, advises, or teaches the duty, necessity, desirability, or propriety of overthrowing or destroying the government of the United States or the government of any State, Territory, District or Possession thereof, or the government of any political subdivision therein, by force or violence, or by the assassination of any officer of any such government;
4) Failure to uphold the law is a form of misfeasance, and as #2 & #3 contradict one another, the oath-taker must choose one to not enforce.
5) Furthermore, the supreme Court has told us that IGNORANCE OF THE LAW IS NO EXCUSE, and therefore ignorance of the law in #3 or that the Declaration of Independence *IS* law cannot be an valid defense.
>Not only that, hasn’t the idiot(and yes, I think he is one)ever read anything about NYC and their over the top unconstitutional gun laws?
Actually he could be BRILLIANT.
His defense: Recite the Constitution’s Bill of Rights; then the oath of enlistment. THEN get, under oath, *EVERY* officer in the court and ask them if their oath is similar.
Closing argument: “Has the Second Amendment been repealed by a later amendment?”
I remember back in the 70’s a man trying to obey the law made a mistake in one of the Northern States. The Federal Judge saying the law made no difference and he was forced to give the poor guy a harsh sentence.
The NRA pointed out that this same judge had a reporter come before him. She had bought a gun illegally just to prove how easy it was. The NRA tried to bring a private prosecution as the dA wouldn’t but that same Federal Judge who said it made no difference to the poor slob who made an honest mistake, found that the law suddenly did allow him to release her as she had not intended to break the law.
That bastard judge was perfectly happy to send an innocent man to jail just to push his anti gun agenda.
US CODE, TITLE 18, PART I, CHAPTER 13, § 242. — Deprivation of rights under color of law
Whoever, under color of any law, statute, ordinance, regulation, or custom, willfully subjects any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District to the deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured or protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States, or to different punishments, pains, or penalties, on account of such person being an alien, or by reason of his color, or race, than are prescribed for the punishment of citizens, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both; and if bodily injury results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include the use, attempted use, or threatened use of a dangerous weapon, explosives, or fire, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and if death results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include kidnapping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to kill, shall be fined under this title, or imprisoned for any term of years or for life, or both, or may be sentenced to death.
New Jersey is just as sick and fascist Democrat as New York.
Believe me, I stay away from both of those toilets.
Yeah whatever. Keep believing that. It’s utterly embarrassing seeing these stories. Yes the NYC laws are total garbage, but Jesus Christ - do these people ever read anything at all?
FIFY
No, blue staters are sniveling Fascisti pigs...
Yeah, real smart for people to carry a handgun into the most gun unfriendly place , despite being warned many times over, and then act surprised when they get busted for their own ignorance.
sorry - that is just plain stupid and dumb.
Sometimes I wonder if places like Massachusetts, New Jersey or New York ever really threw off the Royalist yoke during the Revolution. They certainly never unlearned the disgusting habit of licking the boots of their putative governmental masters, that much is indisputable...
Yeah whatever. Do me a favor - come to NYC with your handgun, try to check it in w the police and see where your arguments go. Post your experience afterwords.
I don’t. Like it at all, but damn it - how ignorant and dumb does someone have to be in 2012 to not know to check local firearms laws before carrying in that state?
