Since my New Years prediction that Obama would select Hillary Clinton for his running mate in 2012 (and Joe Biden would become Secretary of State), Ive been swamped by requests for my GOP prediction. Here goes.
You can forget the caucuses and early primaries. Mitt Romney will be the nominee. Republicans may be stupid but the GOP isnt about to commit suicide. The other candidates are all weighed down by enough baggage to keep a 747 on the tarmac indefinitely.
For his running mate, Romney will choose Marco Rubio, the junior senator from Florida. Why do I say this?
First, Romney will need a right-winger to calm and woo the Republican right. Tea Partiers are attracted to Rubio an evangelical Christian committed to reducing taxes and shrinking government. Rubios meteoric rise in the Florida House before coming to Congress was based on a string of conservative stances on state issues.
Rubio is also a proven campaigner, handily winning four House elections starting in 2002, and then beating popular incumbent Republican governor Charlie Crist in the 2010 Republican primary with the help of Tea Partiers.
Moreover, hes only 40, thereby giving the GOP ticket some youthful vigor.
And hes Hispanic a Cuban-American at a time when the GOP needs to court the Hispanic vote.

McCain wanted to pick Lieberman for VP but got talked out of it. No way Romney will pick Hillary (or that she would accept).
If Romney wins the nomination, he has to pick a solid conservative who can help win a key state or attract independents--maybe Rob Portman or Bob McDonnell. That's not to say that Romney will be the nominee.
Edible? Reminds me of the title of a pro-slavery book: Cannibals All!
The last sentence of the 12th amendment, ratified in 1804, reads: "But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States."
I would be happy with it. Though I wonder if Mitt Romney still has genuine support here or in other COnservative communities and if Marco Rubio is still supported and respected here as a true conservative who will fight for Americans. I believe he is, I wonder how many others here do.
Yeah, she was, but his father wasn't and was not a US citizen.
Unless his father was Macolm X.
You did good, up until your last sentence. Correcting someone politely is always welcome and is a good thing, but takes class and effort. Smarmy comments are a bad thing.
Geez have you even been paying attention for the last 3 years?
It is NOT enough just to be born here. You have to be born here of parents who are citizens
So, the children of illegal aliens OR children of British citizens (Obama) are not Natural Born Citizens even if they were Native Born.
You can't do it.
I say: put up or STFU.
Robert Reicccccccchhhhahs is on the right track (did I just say that, yuck) but like all Statists he is not as smart as he thinks he is. If God forbid he wins the nomination, Myth Romneys choice for VP will be a 100% red blooded conservative in an attempt to excite us in the conservative base.
He’s already got the RomneyCare sword of Damacles hanging over his head. He doesn’t need a natural born citizen controversy. Whether it’s true or not. It won’t be Rubio.
But he would take a page out of the McLame playbook and nominate a young conservative like Juan M did with Palin.
Pretty sure I'm going to trust a constitutional scholar like Mark Levin on this topic over the rantings from wanna-be internet legal scholars and conspiracy theorists.
You can scream and whine all you want, but the courts do not hold your view of what an NBC is. Like it not, no court, no attorney general, no state, no one with any power to influence anything accepts your definition of this issue. The birther stuff is simply never, ever going to amount to anything. If Rubio ends up as the VP nominee, he will never be ruled ineligible.
Personally I would like to see a Gingrich/Santorum ticket.
I think Santorum pared with Newt will send a message to social/moral conservatives that Newt means business...he has changed. I think Santorum is a good man, and hate to see him wasted. Looks like he may get the “win” in Iowa (if you call winning by a few hundred votes a win). However, he can’t continue after Iowa....and I think he would be a good match to Newt....whom I think is the best overall candidate (not the best in any area accept national defense and his views of the courts).
I would really love to see Newt do a verbal skinning of Mr. Teleprompter President in a debate.
Whatever, tonight is not really that important except for short term status and bragging rights. The vote in NH is already in Mitt’s pocket. We won’t see the real beginning of the primary until South Carolina. That we set the lasting tone for the rest of the primary.
“Because according to Article II’s most usual historical interpretation, in order to be a “Natural Born Citizen,” both one’s parents have to be citizens at the time of the candidate’s birth.”
Were eighter, especially the father, a U.S. Citizen when Rubio was born?
No.
Sorry but all the silly Birth Bozo theories are TRUMPED by PRESIDENT Chester A. Arthur.
Yeah so ¨obvious¨ that somehow the Republican enemies of Chester A. Arthur and the Birthers (until a few months ago) missed this ¨obvious¨ point. Any case about this that goes to the Supreme Court would be laughed out within minutes by the ghosts of Chester A. Arthur and his BRITISH CITIZEN parents
Plus isn´t it strange that in all the years of historical writings on the subject of the presidency NOT ONE scholar ever pointed out that Chester A. Arthur was ineligible because of his British Citizen parents. But that won´t stop the Know Nothings. They have their newly hatched make believe theory on eligibility and they won´t let go. I say we take up a raw bone collection for them to gnaw on angrily when any such case is LAUGHED out of court minutes after it enters.
So is PRESIDENT Chester A. Arthur also a ¨filthy traitor?¨ When this Birth Bozo nonsense finally runs its ridiculous course, I´ll send you a coupon for an Anger Management session.
HISTORICAL BREAKTHROUGH PROOF: CHESTER ARTHUR CONCEALED HE WAS A BRITISH SUBJECT AT BIRTH
Senator Marco Rubio is a Citizen of the United States but he is not a natural born Citizen of the United States. Educate yourself.
