Since my New Year’s prediction that Obama would select Hillary Clinton for his running mate in 2012 (and Joe Biden would become Secretary of State), I’ve been swamped by requests for my GOP prediction. Here goes.
You can forget the caucuses and early primaries. Mitt Romney will be the nominee. Republicans may be stupid but the GOP isn’t about to commit suicide. The other candidates are all weighed down by enough baggage to keep a 747 on the tarmac indefinitely.
For his running mate, Romney will choose Marco Rubio, the junior senator from Florida. Why do I say this?
First, Romney will need a right-winger to calm and woo the Republican right. Tea Partiers are attracted to Rubio – an evangelical Christian committed to reducing taxes and shrinking government. Rubio’s meteoric rise in the Florida House before coming to Congress was based on a string of conservative stances on state issues.
Rubio is also a proven campaigner, handily winning four House elections starting in 2002, and then beating popular incumbent Republican governor Charlie Crist in the 2010 Republican primary — with the help of Tea Partiers.
Moreover, he’s only 40, thereby giving the GOP ticket some youthful vigor.
And he’s Hispanic – a Cuban-American – at a time when the GOP needs to court the Hispanic vote.

Correct and we already have the precedent of PRESIDENT Chester A. Arthur whose parents were British citizens when he was born. At the time Arthur was being considered for the VP by James Garfield, Arthur´s many enemies in the Republican Party were desperately attempting to prove Arthur was born outside the USA in an attempt to disqualify him. They were unable to come up with this proof but if the newborn Know Nothing requirement that both parents had to be U.S. Citizens at birth was so ¨obvious¨ as is now claimed then why did the enemies of Arthur fail to even point this out even though it was common knowledge?

Chester A. Arthur did not establish a precedent, there where many, both before him and after, that have gotten away with fraud.

Also, Rubio isn’t dumb enough to hook up with Romney. He has a great career ahead. Why ruin it now?
If he is not a NBC, he can still be the VP. He can not be the POTUS.
To say that all in the line of succession for the presidency have to be NBC means that all the cabinet appointments, Congress critters, and I forget who else have to be.
If the VP is not able to be the president, it slides down the the next edible holder.

I also tend to think Rubio should wait and not run now. If 0bama wins again he will have a clear path in 2016. Romney might be better off with Pawlenty or McDonnell as his running mate.
