Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, whose support in Iowa has withered after riding on top of the polls, on Tuesday called former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney a liar who would mislead the American people if elected to the White House - but added that he would still vote for him if Romney won the GOP nomination.
On CBS' "The Early Show" this morning, CBS News chief White House correspondent Norah O'Donnell asked Gingrich about comments he had previously made about his chief rival and the Super PAC whose negative campaign ads have hurt his campaign: "You scolded Mitt Romney, his friends who are running this Super PAC that has funded that, and you said of Mitt Romney, 'Someone who will lie to you to get to be president will lie to you when they are president. I have to ask you, are you calling Mitt Romney a liar?"
"Yes," Gingrich replied.
"You're calling Mitt Romney a liar?"

You should have asked these two “evangelicals” what does Jesus do about sinners. The word begins with “For and ends with gives” us.
Classic case of a reporter trying to "bait" the candidate for a juicy sound-bite:Reporter: "... I have to ask you, are you calling Mitt Romney a liar?"[BUT that was not a good "gotcha" reply, because CBS would need to include the reporter's baited question... So the guy asks it again, hoping for a complete sentence from Gingrich, that could be sliced and diced, and played over the air, by itself, out of context...] Reporter: "You're calling Mitt Romney a liar?" |
“Few shed any tears when Gingrich resigned as speaker and walked away from his House seat.”
Correct. His own members forced him out.
Oh yeah, and many of those Republicans are still in Congress. They are part of the ongoing problem of business as usual in Washignton, D.C. Under a Republican president, they added over $3 trillion to the federal deficit, shunned conservative policy in favor of Beltway influence-peddling, and so damaged the GOP brand that we lost the majority Gingrich had worked years to forge.
Do you really think I give a damn that Newts fabulous colleagues think his reemergence would be a disaster for Republicans? No.
The elections of 2010 were NOT a merit promotion; the Republicans were the only alternative in town!
I want to see a change in the way Washington, D.C., does business, and Gingrich has promised to do just that!
Both of them point blank said they would never vote for Newt Gingrich even though they detest Obama. She considers it a matter of principle. It is because of his three marriages (cheating on his wife). I tried making the lesser of the two evils argument and it was not pursuasive.”
This is mrs riverdawg’s view, as well as that of many of her Southern, conservative friends.
Trouble is the media (for now) is giving Romney as much of a pass as they gave Obama. Very few of the candidates have tried to attack Romney and they haven’t done it particularly well. With all the creepy stuff Romney’s done, bringing up that he hired a firm who employed an illegal immigrant gardener sure was frivolous and a waste of time.
Newt might be the only one who is capable of really explaining Romney’s record. Even if it’s a suicide-bombing mission for his campaign, it would be a worthy sacrifice to eliminate Romney from the running and get a non-Romney in there.
Sounds like they’re from states we’re not in danger of losing anyway. God bless the electoral college.
Looking forward to the debate this saturday. Hope Newt rips that lying sack of s’it to shreds. GOOOOOOOOOOOO NEWT!!!!!
You got that right...what a low down, dirty piece of garbage...I detest him. NO ROMNEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NEWT
And if Romney is nominated, Newt would run over his grandma to join the ticket.
You can forgive somebody, and trust that God has forgiven him, and still deem him unsuited for the highest office in the land, can't you?
The only candidate's wife I have seen is Mitt Romney's. At least she doesn't stick out like a sore thumb in the Iowa crowds.
FWIW, I don't have a candidate in this race. I'm one of the Anyone But Obama voters here in FL.
I think Newt would make a good VP ...he’d be good at shepherding legislation and wouldn’t have to be trained for the job, as others might. He ego, might influence him otherwise.
Heck, that might explain all of it. There are still huge numbers of Republicans and Conservatives who have not entered the digital age and do get everything from Fox.
Where else would Romney voters be lurking? You sure don’t see very many online. At least, not any of the Conservative sites I visit.
“These and many other questions are slated for a swift and merciless answer if this crap doesn’t stop.”
You, sir, have correctly identified the Shinola.

Hey newbie - mitt IS a liar, a snake in the grass backstabber and nothing patriotic about him. He’s a liberal POS two-faced con man.
Give her a stone and tell her to throw it at Newt, if she dare.
It’s not a matter of principle, it’s more about her self righteousness.
This will show if she is a christian for looks or for real. People like that aren’t nice, they just want to appear nice and are ‘religious’. The type Jesus rebuked.
Hey don’t go away mad, just go away.
