Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, whose support in Iowa has withered after riding on top of the polls, on Tuesday called former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney a liar who would mislead the American people if elected to the White House - but added that he would still vote for him if Romney won the GOP nomination.
On CBS' "The Early Show" this morning, CBS News chief White House correspondent Norah O'Donnell asked Gingrich about comments he had previously made about his chief rival and the Super PAC whose negative campaign ads have hurt his campaign: "You scolded Mitt Romney, his friends who are running this Super PAC that has funded that, and you said of Mitt Romney, 'Someone who will lie to you to get to be president will lie to you when they are president. I have to ask you, are you calling Mitt Romney a liar?"
"Yes," Gingrich replied.
"You're calling Mitt Romney a liar?"

Hey Newt, here’s another angle of attack on Romney.
There’s all this uproar around the country, in particular within the conservative movement, about the government picking winners and losers, and how the govt. should get out of that business.
Newt needs to remind the public that Romney’s company Bain capital is in the business of picking winners and losers. Do we really want him bringing that arrogant mentality to the White House?
NOPE!
GO NEWT!
>>Calling Mitt Romney a liar is not gonna do it. We all know that anyway.<<
On the morning of the Iowa caucus vote? One would think this is his first foray into politics. Heh.
Yeah Go Newt, as in Go Home! He reminds me of a boxer losing a fight late in the rounds throwing haymakers wildly hoping for a miracle knockout.
Newt whines to Romney to stop all the negative ads then turns around and calls him a liar. I guess Newt is realizing his bold assumption that “if you look at the polls, clearly I’m going to be the nominee” isn’t going to happen.
You’re totally confused. You seem to believe the media and Romney’s spin about what Newt’s been doing. Just go on his YouTube page and his web site if you want to see what he’s actually been doing...interviews, town halls, meet and greets, etc. Now if you phrased it as “all the media reported about Newt this past week was what fit their pro-Romney narrative” then you would be onto something.
I got excited when I heard on Gallagher coming in that Newt finally took the gloves off! He read my mind. I had just started calling Romney a liar in my comments the past couple days. Seeing the way he slithered around taking “credit” for his SuperPAC sealed that deal for me. Then I realized it’s the only explanation for his massive policy shifts too.
I agree. Newt, IMHO, is less likable when coupled with his wife. Just don’t think Newt & Wife #3 are going to appeal to the working American.
Just an observation - Mrs. Newt 3 needs to change her helmet hairdo. Most women want to see at least a hair out of place one in a while. It looks like she has a personal hairdresser with her 24/7.
Newt will be the reason Romney drops in the polls if he does. Fox news is really despicable in their coverage of this and will be hearing from me.
Your friends at absolutely right! The South is not particularly fond of Newt and Mrs. #3. We have long memories - heck most of us know Civil War history like it happened yesterday.
It amazes me how the polls say Newt is pulling in SC. I don’t think he could even take FL.
Sorry to hear that Newt is one of only two small government candidates in the race and I would like to see us move to smaller constitutional government. I am hoping Newt will make a comeback after Iowa.
****Fox news is really despicable in their coverage of this and will be hearing from me.****
Fox is so blatant in their promotion of Romney - every short video of their golden boy - shows him in the most positive light.
OTOH - Newt is only shown when he is answering ‘gotchyah’ questions with negative responses. Fox attempting to make him look desperate, negative and a whiner.
Bearing in mind that Fox touts itself as the conservative news alternative - their propaganda for Romney is working.
Do they believe that anyone who’s ever broken one of the 10 commandments should get a lifetime ban from public office or any job whatsoever? Would they eat at a restaurant owned by someone who once cheated on his wife? Tim Allen went to prison for drug charges. Do they make sure that they never go to see a movie with Tim Allen? Trying to see where they draw the line here.
You might want to give Romney the same advice about his hair.
I find it hard to believe that “I have to like the First Lady” is high on voters’ lists of qualities in a candidate they’re looking for. If so, they’ve definitely got some messed up priorities.
At least they covered his major gaffe in the Brett Baier interview last month, but then they had no choice since it was on their network. Boy did that ever show how Romney is unprepared for the spotlight and unable to address simple, predictable questions. The guy is one of those arrogant elites who expects people to kiss the ground he walks on.
On the other-hand..some just come by the ability (skill)to lie naturally..passed down through their political dynasty genes. In the case of Romney, it's likely both natural and indoctrinated.
Indeed..the ability to sell crap is a widely taught skill, but teaching the moral and practical consequences of implementing useless crap legislation rarely brings up any question and answer sessions these days. Moral questions just do not enter the class room setting. P> For incidence, what effect will dishing out huge amounts of mandated unconstitutional crap have on the American people (Hope and Change anyone)? Will they lose confidence in the crappy system and in the crappy corrupt leaders? How much crap is too much crap before there are riots in the streets?
Lastly, what happens to the intelligence level of a population when they eat a steady diet of nothing but steaming piles of big government, nanny state, fascist crap?
These and many other questions are slated for a swift and merciless answer if this crap doesn't stop.
Of course Mitt’s wife converted to Mormonism and donated to Planned Parenthood when her husband was doing fund raising for them, I wonder if that bothers people.
he needs to quit whining....if he is crying this hard now what will he do when obama drops a billion on him...toughen up dude
newt is small guv? wow just wow
He was the last time he was in power and I think with a little help from his conservative friends he will be again. But yeah there is a trust factor with Newt, which is why he is my second choice right now. Paul is my first choice but if he continues to insist on an insane foreign policy I will rethink my support of Paul.
But she hasn't sold out her voice to a "club" and hasn't been taught to speak crap fluently for the "powers that be", nor have her friends or family.
In this day and age, if you can't buy a candidate to say whatever you want them to say..what good are they?/s
So, do you wait for him to renounce his current foreign policy? And, if he does, do you think he will stand by it, or simply mouth the words in order to gain your vote.
