Liberal talk show host Alan Colmes sunk to new a new low when he said on Fox News that former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum took his deceased baby home to 'play with it.'
Noting that the GOP has "speed-dated" every other candidate, Colmes said voters should "get a load" of what he called the "crazy things" Santorum has said and done.
"Like taking his two-hour old baby who died right after childbirth home and played with it for a couple hours so his other children would know it was real, I mean..."
At this point, Fox News contributor Rich Lowry tore into Colmes, calling his statement a "cheap shot."
Lowry lambasted Colmes for "mocking" the death of Santorum's child and said it was beneath the liberal talker, sometimes known as "Skeletor" among some conservatives

“I dont understand what Santorum did, but I didnt lose a child.”
If you watch the video he explains why. His wife worked in a neonatal unit for 9 years. The encouraged parents in such situations to do this. Apparently it helps the family understand what happened and grieve.
I thought it was strange at first too but can see where it would help the family understand and make the baby “real” to them.
Colmes is despicable and has been for a long time.
Another simple way the santorums explained it is that their little children 6 and under would not even know there was a little brother. The baby must have appeared perfect. If he had been grossly deformed they would not have shown Jim to his living siblings. To me it seems lime what they did was to respect their precious child and his too-short stay. Their hearts were broken. Anyone who would choose not to vote for him on this basis is cruel.
Mariner.
You are being a real effing ahole.
Cut it out.
“We have a POTUS who thought that a CHILD who survived an attempted Abortion should be left to die in a closet.”
This bears repeating.
We have a president who condones infanticide - but what do liberals think is “crazy”????....taking an infant home to love, honor, and give a christian funeral.
After a short night of sleep, I’m still just as steamed as I was last night.
grrrr.....
Whats creepy is how we Americans have outsourced the caring for our family members who have passed.
Its fine to watch the most vile disgusting horror movie but creepy to care and love for a family member after their death?
Oh, and by the way, Mariner?
I kissed, hugged, whispered to, and cried over my dead mother, when I had a few private moments.
Dare you call me a necrophile? Was that 'freaky sick'?
Or perhaps was that a son, grieving his mother, telling her he would miss her, and hoping her new home with God was wonderful?
I'm curious to see just how twisted, evil, and hateful you can get, Mariner.
Looks like he did.
Our boy is a jackass...
Bless you, Laz.
Condolences on the loss of you mother.
He damages liberals? How so?
This is exactly what liberals stand for.
He should have been suspended WITHOUT pay immediately while his long-term relationship with FOX is ascertained...
Allan Colmes needs to ALLOW the love of God to touch him. Sadly, his actions say he deliberately keeps God at bay - and/or that he doesn’t care or believe in God’s love.
“I guess Colmes mother never told him to sit up straight when youre on tv.”
I wonder of Colmes’ mother had any children that lived.
“’Progressive’ POS’s like Colmes actually pride themselves of being ignorant about things like that.”
Reminds me of a chick being interviewed by Laura Ingraham a few years ago. I think she was from Code Pink or similar. Laura mentioned “people in the Heartland”. Chick asked, “What’s the ‘Heartland’?” You’re right; libs are clueless when it comes to real people.
Alan , you should have folded up tent a long time ago. You’ve made your living by being contemptible. You stepped over the line, if there is one. You’re a spit heat....for lack of a better public term.
“NOBODY would have know about this if Rick Santorum had not, himself, told the media about it.”
His wife wrote a book about the child; I expect the home funeral information was included in the book.
“This is second time Ive read of a family taking a stillborn neonate home for time with the family.”
The Santorums’ baby wasn’t still-born; it lived for two hours.
FWIW, Mrs. Santorum was a neo-natal nurse for many years. I believe it was through this exposure to the babies, their families, frequent deaths, etc., that these nurses realized the importance of handling the deaths in this way.
