Liberal talk show host Alan Colmes sunk to new a new low when he said on Fox News that former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum took his deceased baby home to 'play with it.'
Noting that the GOP has "speed-dated" every other candidate, Colmes said voters should "get a load" of what he called the "crazy things" Santorum has said and done.
"Like taking his two-hour old baby who died right after childbirth home and played with it for a couple hours so his other children would know it was real, I mean..."
At this point, Fox News contributor Rich Lowry tore into Colmes, calling his statement a "cheap shot."
Lowry lambasted Colmes for "mocking" the death of Santorum's child and said it was beneath the liberal talker, sometimes known as "Skeletor" among some conservatives

STFU, Colmes.
Santorum for President Ping List. FReepmail Antoninus to be added or removed.
Sorry, the pic didn’t come thru. I’ll look up William Fichter. Thx.
He's been told this already. He chooses to ignore the info.
Thank you. And God Bless you. My Faith sustains me and I am grateful for the life I enjoy and look forward to the life that awaits me. Mariner cannot comprehend what he has not experienced, and I hope that he can stay in his state of ignorance for as long as possible..
So what. Someone said the mother wrote a book about their baby. When I lost my daughter, many people told me to write a book because there were not that many years ago. It helps people realize they are not the only ones who have experienced the death of a child no matter the age. I pray you will never, ever know that feeling of severe loss. Some people on here may remember when my daughter died. I have lost a brother, both parents, and husband but not a one of them can compare to the terrible pain of knowing parents have outlived a child. I cried for ages due to that loss. I am ashamed of you for being a part of this site. In other words, get a life with some compassion in it!
This is the first I’ve heard of Colmes stating this!!
What a horrible horrible horrible thing to say!!
If it had been a “conservative” commentator, all hell would have broken loose with denunciations and calls for his head coming from the highest offices in the land (think Trent Lott).
Fichtner looks like the guy but, no, not him. The guy I saw had pock marks on his face and was older than Fichtner and, like I said, a dead ringer for Colmes.
Did Mr. Pastyface crawl out of the sewer to say something?
Karen Santorum, a former nurse, wrote letters to her son during and after her pregnancy. She compiled them into a book, "Letters to Gabriel," a collection of prayers, Bible passages and a chronicle of the prenatal complications that led to Gabriel's premature delivery.
Makes it pretty clear why Sen. Santorum did the WaPo interview. Exactly what mockingbyrd said.
Me too.
My family members who did this were Episcopalians and Methodists of Dutch, Welsh, German and English stock. Their ancestors had been in America since the 1600s.
Normally I would push the abuse button for the language, but in this case I applaud you!
Well done, Neil!
Mariner, I refuse to believe that anyone with a heart, who has loved and lost, will turn against Santorum for his choice of grief. It will only be used as an excuse by those who already had chosen against him..
Pay the termination fee and get it over with. It’s going to be much less than a years worth of service.
Colms is pure trash. Kick him out of your home now.
“I will never be able to understand the hatred from the left.”
Unfortunately I understand it perfectly. Liberals, an supposed ‘conservatives’ alike simply cannot allow compassion, love or the like to corrupt their agenda. They mock it, rail against it, brand it a weakness in any who display it, but do everything they can to use it for political advantage when it can be sued for that purpose.
An issue like the current one has a very real possibility of backfiring hard on the left. So fellow travelers go into CYA mode as we see on this very thread and try to make people like us seem the crazy ones.
Bottom line, it interferes with furthering the culture of death.
For them to even speak on the subject exposes their ignorance of the grief process. The pain never ends, my son died 24 yrs ago at age 24, and it still hurts, and yes we cry.
There is no books to tell you how to grieve, and none should be. The Santorums are simply communicating how they dealt with it, and I find nothing wrong with their actions.
Simply because the Santorums spoke of it, does not mean it is open for discussion by the ignorant. Just leave it alone if you do not agree with them.
Some responses are best left unsaid, for the sake of compassion. None of my business attitude.
Like you my faith sustains me, and I will see him tomorrow, (if you know what I mean, I'm sure you do), in fact that is the last words I said to him, then he left.
I have looked at all my history and it appears intact.
I believe post #27 was where you compared a newborn child to a "baked potato". Perhaps the Admin Moderator can confirm.
I am so freaking ticked right now.
I don’t know how much money we can send, but Santorum is getting moola from us pronto.
I just watched Santorum’s response to this, and he had “the look” - I know that look - when you don’t dare begin to talk about your dead child because you don’t know if you can keep your composure.
This is absolutely disgusting.
When a post is pulled, it is also removed from the poster’s ‘history’.
