Hiyas.
My sainted mother told many a story of folks wanting to actually dig up and see the dead person. Apparently, one woman was not dead, woke up six feet under, and had attempted to claw her way out of the casket.
My mother and someone else took care of the body of my paternal grandmother. They put her body in the bathtub, cut someplace to let the blood flow, and then washed her up and decked her out for the wake.
My ex girlfriend’s uncle had his funeral at home. Obviously he went to a funeral home for embalming and preparation but they took him back home for the visitation and funeral etc.
We sat there in the dining room and played cards not 10 feet away from his casket the night before the funeral.
A friend of mine died with four young children and his wife in bed with him. They planned it that way. They all stayed with him for I think a couple of hours after he died until they were ready to have him carried to the mortuary. It sounds a bit creepy but I think I understand it. He died from cancer and had known for months he was terminal. About a month before he went with his two oldest children to see his beloved Jayhawks play basketball in Allen Field House. RIP Steve.
