Actually, all the countries of (at least) northern Europe (Holland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany etc.) have the same laws forbidding weird names (actually making a local official sign off on them) or the same exact names from the same places and times.... This both prevents “Moon Unit” names and 10 “Hans Jacobsens” in one village all the same age....

No, it wouldn’t work in America. Seems to work over there though—as they’ve had these laws for generations.

This could explain why I've never met, or heard of a German, or Austrian with the sur name Hitler.
