Five polls of Iowa this week all show the same thing, Mitt Romney is either in first place, or gaining steam. The NBC News, Rasmussen Reports, Insider Advantage, and CNN polls all have Romney either in first or tied for first. The one poll that does not have Romney winning, the Public Policy Polling survey, shows Romney up 4 points from just two weeks ago.
And on the ground, ABC News is reporting the same trend:
Romney has been drawing crowds numbering in the hundreds wherever he goes.
They spilled out of a hotel ballroom in Davenport, Iowa on Tuesday night to hear his closing argument speech, they lined up at a coffee shop in Muscatine before the sun rose Wednesday morning to throw a couple questions his way and so many people about 450 in all showed up to a lunchtime meet-and-greet at a Clinton, Iowa deli yesterday that the campaign decided to stage an impromptu event with Romney at another restaurant across the street to accommodate the overflow.
Though political campaigns are notoriously expert at filling venues to create the appearance of a well-attended event, the growing fervor for Romney among the Iowans who are showing up to see him this week is palpable.

You are absolutely correct. We will not survive Obama.
This election is going to be different. You think liberals who have been out of work for the past two years are going to vote for Obama? They'll be hoping for some change as well. Why do you think Romney is doing so well? It isn't because conservatives are pulling for him, that's for sure. He's picking up the center and center/left. To this demographic, Romney is a man they can live with. These people don't post on Free Republic. But they do vote.
Obama still has strong support with leftists. His base will be more unified than ours if RINOmney is the nominee. The center-right demographic is the huge and untapped bloc right now and if we actually chose a real conservative as a nominee, Obama wouldn't have a chance in hell to win in 2012. If Romney is the nominee, the center-right & conservative base will NOT come out in droves come November (he needs much more than "holding my nose to vote" voters to win). Romney WILL lose.
Picking someone who will try to out-liberal Obama like Romney has been doing (his fear of standing up for wall street, tax cuts, engaging in class warfare) is the dumbest move ever. This is a center RIGHT country. America is yearning for a conservative voice, not a watered-down Obama.
The center left is not going to go for Romney, and it's a joke that a Republican candidate would throw conservative values under the bus like he has in order to court them.
Candidate A signed socialized medicine into law and supports it to this day. He is also a silver-tongued political opportunist who will say and do anything to get elected. He has a history of far-left judicial appointments, support for carbon dioxide controls, and working closely with radical environmentalist John Holdren.
So am I talking about Romney or Obama? If you answered “both,” give yourself a cookie. They’re one and the same.
It really irritates me when “conservatives” say they’ll support Romney in the end, however begrudgingly. Has the letter R become the spoonful of sugar to make any poison palatable? Is there ANY Republican you wouldn’t vote for? That’s the party-line nonsense I’d expect from Democrats.
If it comes down to Romney versus Obama, the destruction of America will be complete before a single vote is cast. The true issue on the ballot will be which party owns it. That doesn’t mean I’ll vote for Obama, but you can bet I’ll never lift a finger for Willard.
How can he POSSIBLY win if he is not even on the ballot of 20+ states, many of whom don't allow write-in?
What is Santorum’s path to victory? (Honest answer: he has none).
Of my "C" list candidates, I will still rank Newt Gingrich higher, if only slightly, than Mitt Romney.
I think it is still a big if that Romney becomes the nominee. I believe Gingrich still has the upper hand in South Carolina which may provide the momentum to help him win in Florida, where every nomination in the last 50+ years has been decided.
Yes, I will be less than enthused about a "C" list nominee. No, I will not be suicidal and go out a vote to re-elect Obozo to teach the GOP Establishment a lesson.
We owe it to the country to elect as conservative of a congress as we possibly can who will check and balance a GOP RINO president. That's what gave us Justice Alitio instead of Justice Harriet Meiers who would have been, at best, another Justice Kennedy clone.
If it came down to Gingrich vs. Santorum, I'm not sure I could vote for Newt, just wondering whether his serial infidelities reflected just what happened to be convenient at the moment or reflected his true convictions.
And I don't mean just his marital infidelities.
There is a reason that the homo lobby goes beserk over the thought of a Santorum presidency, but just gives a cold shrug to the thought of a Gingrich presidency. Why do you suppose that is?
if Romney is IT there is NO WAY IN *(*&^ I’m going to let the Marxist in chief win another term.
You have Marxist in chief Obama running against Marxist in chief Romney. so what is the diff? The progressives plan A and Plan B running against each other. they can’t loose and they think we are too stupid to realize what is going on.
And we are too stupid, as a result they view us as slaves. Isn’t that special!
In 10 to 20 years, the dem party will, no doubt, be all out communist and the rep party will be nice little moderate marxists
That is the problem! The dems are communist controlled now with the reps controlled most of the time. The communist goal of controlling one or both parties which they have been pursuing for over one hundred years, was realized in the last two decades. They don’t refer to themselves as communists so as too hide their agenda. They call themselves either liberals or progressives and hide among true liberals/progressives.
No that was my point. Another four years of Obama will destroy this country.
Can you grasp the difference between PREDICTING behavior and ADVOCATING behavior? I was stating a fact that I KNOW will happen. Candidates with no beliefs simply don't electrify and motivate voters to get excited and bring a carload of their family and friends to vote the way Palin, Cain, Bachmann, Santorum or even Gingrich would. That's the way it is. I work in the business and I've seen it over and over and over and over again at every level from Statehouses to the Whitehouse, in every corner of the country for nearly 25 years. And there's nothing anyone can do to change it. So we need to avoid that scenario and the best way to avoid it is to not nominate another Ford-Dole-McCain-Romney candidate.
If Romney’s the nominee then everything probably will be his fault. He’s almost as inexperienced at Obama was at accomplishing anything in life. He was the son of a millionaire politician...didn’t have to overcome any challenges at all to get into business or politics. Bain Capital was the equivalent of a check-cashing place. They had desperate companies on the verge of bankruptcy sign sweetheart deals with Bain where Bain couldn’t lose. Bain got plenty of profit out of the companies if they turned around and none of the loss if they went bankrupt.
Give them credit for coming up with a business model where they couldn’t lose but it wasn’t exactly hard work, not any more than running a check-cashing place is. If you have a lot of money, you can easily make money by taking advantage of desperate people at very low risk. Romney is the poster child for the rich getting richer simply because they’re already rich. Nothing wrong with that but it doesn’t show a lot of skill or talent and it isn’t going to inspire a lot of admiration from the general electorate.
I saw Newt many times on Fox in the last 5 or so years defending conservative positions. The idea that he somehow morphed into a liberal in the last decade is just false and ludicrous. No one’s claiming he’s 100% conservative, just 90%. From what I’ve seen, that 90% stat holds up even just considering what he’s said since he was out of office after 1998. The only way you get someone who looks like a 100% conservative is when someone completely and artificially changes their positions and disavows everything they’ve said and done before, like Romney.
There. Fixed it.
Nice. But don't expect the Newt crowd to take the same medicine they've been dishing out to everyone else.
Amen to that.
Welfare reform, yes (on the third try). But Newt never balanced the budget. Besides, running on a “Glory of the Clinton Years” platform simply is not a winning strategy for the GOP candidate. Hillary already tried that four years ago.
Agreed.
It's the Mormon Mafia. Just ask Howard Hughes.
If faced with that choice in November, I will do the same. However, we won't have to. Romney is not going to win the GOP nomination. Just wait until the Missouri primary gets here.
