Mitt Romney has now jumped to his biggest lead ever over President Obama in a hypothetical Election 2012 matchup. Its also the biggest lead a named Republican candidate has held over the incumbent in Rasmussen Reports surveying to date.
The latest national telephone survey finds that 45% of Likely U.S. Voters favor the former Massachusetts governor, while 39% prefer the president. Ten percent (10%) like some other candidate in the race, and six percent (6%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
A week ago, Romney trailed Obama 44% to 41%. The week before that, he held a slight 43% to 42% edge over the president. The two candidates have been essentially tied in regular surveys since January, but Romney remains the only GOP hopeful to lead Obama in more than one survey. Despite Romneys current six-point lead, his latest level of support is in line with the 38% to 45% he has earned in matchups with the president this year. However, Obamas 39% is a new low: Prior to this survey, his support has ranged from 40% to 46% in matchups with Romney.
A generic Republican candidate holds a narrow lead over the president again this week as has been the case all but three times in weekly tracking since late May. Obama leads all the other named GOP candidates by as little as seven and as much as 15 percentage points. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Texas Governor Rick Perry and businessman Herman Cain have all surged ahead of the president at one point but did not maintain those leads.

Nope, Obama is going to win this election. Republicans can’t win without conservatives and they don’t have a candidate and have list their resolve. Yet conservatives are treated like the redheaded step child and disrespected and opinions mocked time and time again by establishment. RINOS don’t win presidential elections and liberals know it,
I would gladly vote for Rick, but I am afraid that is a pipe dream. I settled on Newt a long time ago. He is not perfect, but he is a conservative no matter what anyone says. He governed that way, and that is what is important. There is even a case that he governed more conservatively than Rick S.
I agree almost anyone has the potential to beat Obama, except possibly Paul. I think Romney has the lowest chances though. If we don’t present a conservative alternative, people will feel they may as well elect the liberal with 4 years of experience over the new one. Also, I believe the economy will recover helped by Obamacare being overturned by the Supremes, removing the only issue Romney had to run on. Just like when McCain was elected as a national security conservative and then the economy became the issue, leaving him up the creek without a paddle.
It’s not my fault if you don’t have the empathy to see how someone feels when a politician says millions of people from their ethnic group will be rounded up house to house, packed up in busses (I guess) and shipped off to a dangerous and, to many of them, unknown land against their will.
I think it is clear what you are interested in.
Promoting Romney at the first major attack, the first major media campaign push to eliminate the non-Romney favorite, is a cave of the highest order. This is just beginning and your towel is in already? When the battle is going to be long, foxholes are more tolerable when shared by the like minded. You are not it. That is all I am saying.
He promises to be "ROUGH!" on the Iranians.
its a lie!!! rasmussen is a member of roves army trying to bring down newt.....ya ya ya

But I guess I should be showing more empathy when American lives and property are destroyed by the illegals.
MS-13 and the Latin Kings need more people like you to fight people like me.
Did you even bother to watch my video of Laura Ingraham’s smackdown LIVE against Newt Gingrich on illegal aliens?
emotional warfare waging - this is just a weird statement all together
wife cheating - he's repented and Americans are very forgiving of people who admit their faults and bashing him for this will only increase his support
overweight - Seriously? if thinks like this? Bizarre commentary and superficial. So how did Christie win in NJ? He won because of his no-nosense straight shooting message.... Newt's communication skills are off the charts in regards to putting forward the Conservative approach to governing. Again, overweight? HA
unattractive guy - weird comment. Says who?
who will say or do anything to get a vote - Newt received the loudest applause from the most recent debates and has the strongest conservative record. He has a proven track record of changing things in Washington over any other candidate. He means what he says and worked WITH Reagan and AGAINST Clinton.
If you think he can motivate women (the backbone of any election) to oust ZERO in the General Election, then you are wrong. - Wrong again, lame superficial FALSE reasons to bash Newt are idiotic and just plain weird. Who thinks like thia when people are losing their jobs and can't wait to see incompetent, lazy and lying Zero out of office. They will very much embrace Newt's strong message and real solutions to getting the economy back on track.
I have a large circle of friends and family -- very well versed in politics. NOT one will cast a vote for Socialist Mitt. Nothing on the Earth will EVER get me to cast a vote for Mitt.
Miss is a fraud -- Mitt HATES conservatives. His first priority will be to screw conservatives in every way he can.
Mitt will not lift a finger to do anything to slow Obamacare. He will likely only try and change the name to MittCare.
A vote for Mitt is a vote against Liberty and our beloved Constitution.

Ted Kennedy Prepared Barack Obamas Attack Ads
http://www.redstate.com/erick/2011/12/29/ted-kennedy-prepared-barack-obamas-attack-ads/
In 1994, Ted Kennedy ran against Mitt Romney. Romney ran on his jobs record in the private sector. Sound familiar?
Well, get ready for Barack Obamas ad campaign against Mitt Romney.
Ted Kennedy already produced the ads and Ive got them.
Were going to hear about Bain Capital taking federal bailout money. Well hear the tales of woe from people Mitt Romney ordered laid off.
Yes, you can say well hear all the same stuff about Barack Obama, but every poll shows voters still do not connect Barack Obama to his policies.
Policies are esoteric things. The people in these ads, however, connect their firings to Mitt Romney.
The ads are below the fold. If you dont see them here, youll see them on the campaign trail once Romney is the nominee.
Oh, and in addition to campaign ads featuring every person every laid off on orders from Mitt Romney, youll also get to see his house in Utah, his stone cottage, and his Belmont home.
The closest equivalent to Campaign 2012 with Barack Obama running against Mitt Romney wont be found in the recent era. Youll have to go all the way back to France, 1793, and the campaign of Robespierre against Marie Antoinette.
Talk about a bloody political season.

I will bet you a 50 dollar donation to FR that Gingrich fails to defeat Obama in the General Election. Put your money where your mouth is.
” I dont see that much of a difference between Newt and Romney to be honest.” <<<
The Romney camp will be happy to hear that. I see Romney as the walking set back to conservatism he has already proven himself to be, every time he’s at bat. Newt has placed us, by way of 1994, in a position to fight back today, for THE LAST TIME, or else we would already be taken over entirely, speaking by now, RAP, with Pacifism written on our forehead.
I’ll take the military brat boy over the frat boy any day.
so I am a loon
OK well, I didn’t know y’all were so married to Rasmussen. However, I still don’t believe the poll
Bet with Mitt, he likes makes bets. Who makes bets like this? lol
Agreed. He polls Romney/Obama every week, and last week he had the Sun King leading Mitt by 3.
This poll is useful for observing that the much-proclaimed "Obama comeback" has fizzled. It's actually great news because it means that Obama is cratering so much that an actual conservative can beat him, if nominated.
There is a primary coming, where we are in charge of one thingour nominee. Lets not hand the thing to Romney without a fight, or board the trains so willingly.
Where the hell do you see me throwing in the towel in my post?
At some point next November there's going to be a guy with the letter "R" after his name facing Barack Obama in the general election. By then it's not going to matter if this guy is Rick Perry, Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani or Alvin Freakin' Greene, this the guy I'm going to vote for.
You think I'm boarding the Romney train willingly? Go take a hike.
So, please indulge me, if it is Obama vs. Romney, who do you plan on voting for? Or is this a moot point to you because you occupy some fantasy world where a guy like Mitt Romney could never, ever, ever, possibly secure the Republican nomination because nobody on Free Republic likes him?
