Shock Poll : Romney 45% Obama 39% [Drudge Headline]
Rasmussen Reports ^ | DECEMBER 27, 2011 | Rasmussen Reports

Posted on 12/29/2011 7:16:12 AM PST by RobinMasters

Mitt Romney has now jumped to his biggest lead ever over President Obama in a hypothetical Election 2012 matchup. It’s also the biggest lead a named Republican candidate has held over the incumbent in Rasmussen Reports surveying to date.

The latest national telephone survey finds that 45% of Likely U.S. Voters favor the former Massachusetts governor, while 39% prefer the president. Ten percent (10%) like some other candidate in the race, and six percent (6%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

A week ago, Romney trailed Obama 44% to 41%. The week before that, he held a slight 43% to 42% edge over the president. The two candidates have been essentially tied in regular surveys since January, but Romney remains the only GOP hopeful to lead Obama in more than one survey. Despite Romney’s current six-point lead, his latest level of support is in line with the 38% to 45% he has earned in matchups with the president this year. However, Obama’s 39% is a new low: Prior to this survey, his support has ranged from 40% to 46% in matchups with Romney.

A generic Republican candidate holds a narrow lead over the president again this week as has been the case all but three times in weekly tracking since late May. Obama leads all the other named GOP candidates by as little as seven and as much as 15 percentage points. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Texas Governor Rick Perry and businessman Herman Cain have all surged ahead of the president at one point but did not maintain those leads.

Well I’ve been as disappointed as anyone in Coulter the past year or so - but I would not call her an “Arnold Republican” at all. I would suspect 99% of what she has ever written about him was negative, but no, I did not search that out.

Arnold is far left of Mitt.

As for Drudge, he is very ant establishment normally. Seems more libertarian independent to me. But maybe he is a Mitt guy this time.

If a more conservative Republican had been the nominee in 2008, he would have been beaten even more badly.

That's ridiculous. I don't want to say traitorous, but if your confidence in conservatism is that low, you're probably well on your way to leaving us for DU by the end of next year.

[ He (Romney) would possibly do more harm than Obama in many ways. He will govern to the left center.]

ABSOLUTELY! That is the ONE thing that Romney has clearly done and actually gone out of his way to do all through his pathetic, lack luster career!

Romney's political ads are utter lies. There is no way that he is the Conservative, budget hawk, he or his minions, claims he is. If this country is that stupid to vote for him, he will immediately change sides and pander to the Left as well as the MSM.

We will have Nationalist (Crony, ultra huge, in bed with government, corporations) Socialism. That is exactly what Romney will bring. In other words, Romney will expand these Corporations power to nearly equal that of Government. And they will work hand in hand. You think we are all just numbers now, wait till you see the Romney Administration!

You hit the nail on the head when you said Drudge does not lead the “Mormon lifestyle.”

Can you please elaborate on what exactly this is insinuating? I am wondering what is meant by the "not Mormon lifestyle"? Does it mean Drudge likes caffeinated beverages a lot?

So you think Obama’s choice for supreme court would be more liberal than Romney’s. Guess again and go look at his record.

Drudge & Coulter are working with Matt Rhodes.

Wish Free Republica would include a news aggregation front page similar to Drudge's site which consists mainly of links to stories from the United States and international mainstream media about politics, entertainment, and current events as well as links to many columnists, but with a TRUE CONSERVATIVE tone

For you must all realize that even if Mitt was a conservative we could back, he is a pushover, a milquetoast, who has only won ONE election in his political career.

Interesting point, Sam...off the top of my head, hasn't Mitt won FEWER elections than every other GOP presidential candidate? (Not sure about Governor Huntsman.)

If I am wrong; feel free to set me straight.

“Newt is the one candidate they’re afraid of..”

Barry isn’t afraid of any of these GOP candidates. Newt can talk a good game but is in such an unattractive package (baggage and appearance) that I can’t imagine the vapid soccer moms that live around me would vote for him. GOP has to win the soccer mom vote or it will be 4 more years of barry the magic kenyan.

Newt’s a better COMMUNICATOR and STRONGER LEADER than Obama. Enough women will feel he can help our economy recover and protect us from foreign attacks better than Obama.

Mitt’s hardline immigration stance won’t help him with Hispanics either, and that’s a much more in-play swing vote than women, who basically split liberal/conservative and will back the party they like.

I am interested in getting rid of Obama, but if you think Gingrich can do it, then you are wrong.

From what I understand, it goes far beyond caffeinated beverages. As they say on Seinfeld, "not that there's anything wrong with that...."

If you think for a second, that the fate of this country belongs to a handful of “Soccer moms”, then we truly are doomed. (On all accounts)

Yes, with Obama you have 100% certainty that he would nominate a crazy liberal. Romney is less than 100%. How much less, I can’t say. But less.

Mitt’s hardline immigration stance won’t help him with Hispanics either,

So you prefer the "Open Borders" and "let's preserve the families" kind of emotional warfare from Newt Gingrich instead????

Sheesh, you really need to take a minute to examine why you prefer Gingrich over Romney.
