"Which does make the theory behind the article rather far-fetched. If the investigation of Arpaios civil rights abuses was motivated by the Sheriffs embrace of birtherism, how did the feds manage to start first? Crystal ball? Time machine?" Which means that your baloney tie in doesn't work, since the current DOJ action and inaction on immigration matters has nothing to do with any attempt to dig up corruption/dirt on Sheriff Arpaio in the past, but rather is recent overt action by Holder's (and by extension Obama's) inJustice Department that is directly detrimental to the MCSO's ability to determine the status of people entering their jails, and then providing one out of a "promised" fifty federal personnel to pick up the slack when the DOJ cuts off access to immigration databases by deputies. That, to my mind, constitutes a major escalation in hostilities.
Now the other direction the Sheriff went all cold-case posse out of anger at being investigated himself that makes sense. Yep, makes perfect sense for the guy to go against people holding the most powerful of the levers of power on the planet just to insulate himself from criticism on the immigration front. I mean, that "birther" armor will certainly deflect any flak that might come his way over immigration enforcement, right?
Dude. Really? You're not even trying, today. S'matter? Too much turkey?

Too much arrogance and inner conflict. Liberals always really hate everything, their inner life is a mess.
