Many Iowans Struggle With Political Indecision

David A. Fahrenthold December 25

ANKENY, Iowa — At first, she liked Texas Gov. Rick Perry. He was about faith and family, just like she is. Then she heard Perry debate.

And then she liked Rep. Michele Bachmann (Minn.). Another assertive Christian. But that ended, too: “She has kind of an annoying voice.” With 24 days before the state’s key caucuses, six candidates gather onstage. Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney are taking on different roles than in previous matchups as Gingrich has climbed in the polls.

So then Susan Fredregill — a 58-year-old retiree with blonde highlights and six grandchildren to watch — moved on to her third Republican candidate of this chaotic presidential primary season. She liked former House speaker Newt Gingrich (Ga.).

At least for a few days.

“Let’s just pick the smart one,” Fredregill thought. “And get it over with.”

This is what Iowa’s epic case of political indecision looks like, from the inside.

With less than two weeks before its first-in-the-nation caucuses, this state has already cycled through four front-runners. The latest is Rep. Ron Paul (Texas), whose poll numbers rose this week as Gingrich’s lead deflated.

This political promiscuity is a little embarrassing, for people who picture themselves in a state-sized Norman Rockwell painting: America’s sober, decisive First Voters. Now, many Iowans can’t stop changing their minds.

People need to get over the whole self-concious is the media going to make fun of our canidate idea and pick someone based on their views and past record. ANY canidate that becomes the Republican nominee is going to be hated and made fun of by Democrats in the Media and the DNC! That’s just the way it is. They will be ridiculed because it’s in the Leftists training book(Rules for Radicals) Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.

WHAT idiot would make a decision like that?.

An Iowa Republican. Isn't it great this small, atypical state has such inordinate influence on our presidential selection process?

Iowa is Jimmy Carter’s curse upon America.

Enough, already.

Lookat the choices... far as I’m concerned, if “none of those declared” was a viable. notice, it would win the caucuses.

A whole passel of freepers IIRC. That was their main objection to her candidacy.

I shouldn’t freep on an iPad... “none of the above” would win if the choice were available... the choices suck.

A true conservative with no baggage would win hands down. Anyone know where we can find one?

Let’s turn it over to Virginia instead.

There is no such perfect candidate. Christ himself was seen in the company of prostitutes, and the purity police around here would claim that since Chirst was seen with hookers, he would be unelectable.

Jesus probably would be unelectable.. if not deported..
Fortunately Jesus is not a Democrat or a RINO, he is a KING..

Let’s turn it over to Virginia instead.

Not much difference. In 2008, Iowa went for Obama by 9.5% and Virginia went for Obama by about 6%.

I think any state that went for the Democrat in the last election should be required to vote last in the next Republican primaries. Why let Democrat states pick the Republican nominee? It doesn't make sense.
