Angelina Jolie inflames new ethnic emotions in Bosnia with her debut as film director
The Telegraph ^ | 12/17/2011 | Philip Sherwell

Angelina Jolie has aroused praise and criticism in Bosnia with her first film as a director, a story of love and war set during the bloody Balkans conflict. ... But in the Balkans, another world from the star-studded American premieres and glitzy after-parties, the film is inflaming old and deeply-held emotions. ... Former Bosnian Muslim war prisoners and relatives of massacre victims, some of them initially critical, lauded In the Land of Blood and Honey after being invited to a private screening to allay earlier fears about the subject matter.

But the leader of a Bosnian Serb prisoners group has slammed the film for its allegedly one-sided depiction of the atrocities and called for it to be banned from the country's Serbian areas. ... Murat Tahirovic, who heads an association of ex-prisoners of war, added: "This film is deeply moving for the victims who experienced all of these things.

"It is completely objective and it really tells the facts of what happened during the war. She succeeded in telling the story of the whole war in her film and to show... situations that detainees faced - mass executions, rapes, [being used as] human shields and all the other horrors."

But Branislav Djukic, who heads the Bosnian Serb Association of Camp Prisoners, had a very different reaction after seeing a trailer. He said that the film "is showing lies" as it depicts only Serbs as rapists during the war and called for it to be barred from cinemas in the autonomous Serbian half of Bosnia. "We'll do our best to ban the film," he said. ...

Naive ignorance of Hollywood.

When artistic skills are not enough to make me hundreds of millions, I goose things a bit by getting involved on the wrong side of a conflict that's popular in the America-hating, muslim-loving Hollywood, and making a film sure to create controversy.

In a word, jacka$$. She got paid, so, professional jacka$$.

I had some Serbs here in America fill me in on the situation back in the mid 90’s. Excellent people.

This movie is going to tank.

Just the trailer is difficult to watch because the subject matter — war, death, despair — is so painful.

People go to the movies to be entertained.

Yeah, it is so "objective" that the Bosnian Muslim government wouldn't even let her film there until she rewrote the script repeatedly until the it fit the narrative that the so-called "Bosnian (Muslim) Survivor" groups approved.

She is stirring up a hornets nest that had just begun to settle down. What a foolish woman she is.

There are no good guys in a civil war. Each side is there to abuse and kill the other side. They are at war because they hate each other and don’t want to live with each other anymore.

So, picking out one side as total victims of the other evil side, is automatically a lie. To please the Muslims with this movie like she did, she would be lying by the ommission of their role in the civil war. In other words, she told a politically correct story. We all know what it will convey and what it will hide before we watch it.

Another “big lie” smear job of the Serbs. ANYTHING to defend the Muslim hordes. Bosnia. Kosovo. Wherever. The Muslims are ALWAYS the victims. Digusting.

“The Serbs were the good guys.”

You’re right, as far as the US is concerned. Serbia was awarded that territory at the end of WWI for fighting on the Allies’ side. In WWII they were again allied with the US, Britain, and Russia. 70 years after being awarded those territories, the US and Western Europe expected the to simply relinquish it as though it was a lease - what a hoax.

I wonder how any US servicemen who killed Serbs in Operation BJ Coverup sleep at night.

See # 17; while I’m not Serbian (or Eastern European at all), this wasn’t simply a civil war. We have a president who has been glorified for going to war as the Serbs did to preserve their country.

Come on hosepipe,

Barely enough time to teach these kids about the homosexual agenda, the communist manifesto, and Mao’s little red book.
Get real man.

Fortuately, they mostly bombed black plastic roads, and military decoys ... that said, there still are existing images of the many bridges, towns, and trains blown up during the war. The Truth in Media site has them, but they are had to find.
