Keystone XL Pipeline Poll needs Freeping.
Politico Web Site ^ | 12/16/11 | Me

Do you think an extension of the payroll tax cut should include approval for the Keystone XL pipeline?

Yes -- It would be a good display of compromise from Washington. No -- It's completely unrelated and needs its own debate and decision. I'm not sure

I have little respect for Congress and their typical use of politics to muddy the waters and reduce personal accountability so they get reelected.

I don’t have a problem with the pipeline as long as eminent domain is not used by private international corporations to steal land for private gain. I opposed this outrage in Connecticut - Kelo V New London, and will fight it again in Nebraska. It ain’t about politics, it is about taking private property for private interests and I will never support it.

Although after Bush and Paulsen’s and then Obamas TARP, Americans should get used to bending over so that incompetent crony interests get access to our tax dollars because they have connections that benefit their few not the USA.

How can they begin to justify eminent domain unless the output of this pipeline is restricted to benefit the USA and not be shipped off shore to Asia or the commies in China?

I will never support the process where pols can duck and cover on split legislation where it is about deals for them and not accountability and debate for us.

Typical Pollutico misleadingly worded poll.

Should be :

- Yes, we need the extra 100,000 jobs

- No, we don’t need no stinking jobs

Petroleum pipelines are built in easements, and don’t encumber the surface uses of the land.

Its a good use of eminent domain, and they usually pay well for the use of the land.

As a land owner I'll decide what is good use of my land, and not some politically connected private enterprise who can take it from me. I'll also decide what I want paid for the easement and blockage of access, and not the amount that some corporate hack decides to pay me.

A pipeline on my property not only decreases my market value, but has also requires an access easement, and raises the specter of potential property damage and harm. As the owner I want the right to decide on my own if I want that exposure, and not have a gang of beholden politicians in DC decide for me. Either Repubs are for eminent domain by private enterprise or they are against it. Now they are for it for Canadians in the USA.

When it is all said and done this Canadian oil is going to the highest bidder (probably commies in China), and not necessarily to the benefit of the USA. It is foreign oil, not USA oil. We get only a pittance from giving them access.

All oil has always gone to the highest bidder.

The increase in available oil usually reduces prices overall.

If everyone had your attitude, we would be burning cowshit for our steamers.

This pipeline project giveaway displays exactly how incompetently and corrupt the USA is run. I’ll explain below.

But first when has it ever been considered conservative to support the use of eminent domain in the USA by and for the convenience of foreign corporations, or does it depend upon which side of the aisle is pushing the project? They are both beholden and not to US citizens.

Mark my words this theft by eminent domain will be used again and again by foreign interests (Spanish wind mill corporations for example??), and someday it will come to your backyard too.

http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=9313

This is why the pipeline is a bad deal:

This pipeline isn’t about providing benefits for, or making the USA energy independent. Factually it will cause the price of gasoline to rise in the Midwest which currently enjoys an oversupply of product from Canada.

It is about the taking of sovereign rights of USA citizens and landowners by foreign corporations so as to maximize their profits. The USA is simply being used as the conduit to enable unrefined Canadian oil to be shipped to a global market and then bid up by the Chinese. In the end much of the oil will by-pass USA refineries too.

This proves that neither Party knows how to work in the interest of the USA as a nation, because Congress is owned by global corporations instead of working for citizens. As Donald Trump would say, only an incompetent corrupt Congress would give foreign corporations access to USA land without negotiating a deal giving advantageous and long term benefits to the USA. Why is there no deal to provide the USA with guarantees on supply of this oil that traverses the USA, and require use of our refineries, along with guaranteed discounts on oil delivered to our market?

Instead the only “advantage” for the USA this pipeline offers is from short term employment while they are building it. I agree with Trump that Congress is made up of politicians, fools and traitors.

This pipeline deal is analogous to a private individual owning a piece of valuable land that a neighboring corporation desperately needs, and the deal that is cut via eminent domain turns over perpetual rights to his property for access in exchange for the corporation giving the landowner a temporary job building their road.

The same fools in Congress who gave Asia our economy and the open trading access to the worlds largest consumer markets from the 70s on in exchange for nothing, are still screwing us.

If Cato were even close to correct, Obama would be going gangbusters for the project.

Hi editor.....I’ll bet you didn’t begin to read my wordy post, but that’s OK.

America is run by elected thieves for the benefit of corporations and other nations, and my opposition to the underlying foolish rationale for the Keystone Pipeline for Canada at the expense of the USA isn’t ever going to change the underlying corruption.

We have become a corrupt Mexicanized and Russianized nation. Why does partisanship for some reason make it acceptable for some?
