Ever since January, when the Illinois-based pharmaceutical company Hospira elected to stop making a key ingredient in the lethal injection cocktail used by several US states to execute death-row inmates, the United States has been searching for alternative suppliers. As of Friday, obtaining the drug from the European Union will become much more difficult.
According to a report published Monday in the daily Süddeutsche Zeitung, a new European Union regulation set to go into effect at the end of this week will prohibit the export of some barbituric acids unless a special permit has been issued. Among those chemicals on the list is the anesthetic thiopental, which is used broadly in the US for executions.
When announcing its decision to cease production of thiopental, Hospira cited the drug's use in lethal injection cocktails as the primary reason. Numerous executions in the US have had to be postponed due to shortages of the chemical as a result of the company's decision. Simply replacing it with something else is not immediately possible due to the complicated process with which chemicals are approved for inclusion in lethal injection cocktails. As a result, many states have spent months searching for new suppliers abroad.
In June, Germany's Vice Chancellor Philipp Rösler, who was health minister at the time, said he was asked by then-US Commerce Secretary Gary Locke to help in the search for new suppliers of thiopental. "I noted the request, and declined," Rösler reported saying in response. He also wrote to German pharmaceutical companies asking them not to sell the chemical in the US.

Ropes still work.
No worries we’ll just resurrect Ol’ Sparky.
We could launch them head first through a giant wood chipper.
They would be hamburger so fast, (and with no part of any size connected to any other part) that there would be no time to feel pain and no body to feel pain. That’s humane.
The death penalty states will just bring back “Old Sparky.”
No healthy adult wants to die, but given a choice, most of us would choose “going to sleep” first.
That’s an interesting question, though.
To all readers...
If you were wrongly convicted in a death penalty case, what would be your first choice in execution method?
Nitrogen Asphyxiation - simply the cleanest, cheapest, safest, painless way to execute someone. Strap the condemned down, place a mouth and nose breathing mask with two feeds. Feed one is normal air, feed two is 99.5% industrial nitrogen. Valve between the two should be either 1 or 2 and should be triggered electronically.
Add a brain wave monitor to determine when the brain activity stops. Set the valve to switch between 1 and 2 when the clock runs out. Wait till there is no more brain wave activity for 5 min. Done. The condemned just goes to sleep.

Old Age
There hundreds of drugs that could be used as a substitute
Well what execution style the Krauts would suggest, seeing they are the Jewish-execution champions of all time.
After 10 years, any death row inmate not executed, should receive a one-way ticket to countries which complain about us having the DP.
There was a thread going around this week-end, something like most beautiful celebrities. I can think of a scenario which would result in my death, far preferable to anything on this thread yet.
DEATH BY SNOO SNOO!

We still have domestic-made bullets . . . they’re cheaper, more accurate, and finish the job with little environmental damage. Sure stops recidivism.
High speed injection of Pb never fails.
Use what hospitals use for anesthesia, count back from 100 and by 97 your out like a light. Just keep giving until dead.
1 drug needed...why they use 3 to kill someone is stupid and politically motivated...Hell, have a vet come in and do it...3 seconds and the dog is peacefully put down, they just keep giving the med until the syringe is empty....better than those that get the death penalty deserve...
