Gingrich on Obama’s healthcare law: ‘About 300 pages are pretty good’ [300 out of 2,409]
The Hill ^ | 9/30/2011 | James Klatell

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) called for an immediate repeal of President Obama's healthcare law but would reinstate "a little over 10 percent" of it.

He made the remarks on Thursday in Iowa, when he introduced a new version of his "Contract with America."

Gingrich, a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, listed "Repeal ObamaCare" as the first of his 10 part contract.

"The reason you have to repeal it is it's a 2,700-page document," Gingrich said. "You can't repeal part of it, because candidly you can't trust the staffs to tell you which part you ought to repeal."

But the former Speaker stressed that he had a "common-sense replacement" for the nation's healthcare system, and that some of that comes from the law he wants repealed.

"Now there are about 300 pages that are pretty good, a little over 10 percent, but they should be part of the replace document," Gingrich said.

"We need to convince Newt"

No! We need to convince you and all other Republican Primary Voters to dump Newt and switch to Bachman who has consistently supported dumping this Obomination on the ash heap of history. She's also supported the Tea Party and it's prime objection to this garbage law!!!

Newt will probably fizzle just like he did at the start of this campaign.

Obama should be getting weaker after his appearance on 60 Minutes next Sunday night!!!

Relax.

He called for an IMMEDIATE REPEAL of the health care law.

The “about 300 pages” he’s talking about putting in the replacement document are going to be the stuff that was put in to curry Conservative favor and win over Conservative Democrats. Part of this includes actual REFORMS that Conservatives have been fighting for.

Some examples include:

- the ability to increase fines for billing errors (thus forcing efficiency) and less endless patient fighting with the insurance company to pay for GUARANTEED services. I have had to deal with this crap myself.

-The Food and Drug Administration is authorized to approve generic versions of biologic drugs and grant biologics manufacturers 12 years of exclusive use before generics can be developed. That is some important cutting of red tape Conservatives have been fighting for.

-Enhanced methods of fraud detection are implemented. This includes Medicare fraud. Hell YEAH!

-A new website installed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services will provide consumer insurance information for individuals and small businesses in all states. This will help small businesses and the self-employed compare all possible plans in order to obtain the best possible deal.

-A temporary tax credit program is established to encourage private investment in new therapies for disease treatment and prevention. In other words, the financial risk is reduced for medical companies and their investors when considering researching new treatments and medicines.

-Employers must disclose the value of the benefits they provided beginning in 2012 for each employee’s health insurance coverage on the employees’ annual Form W-2’s (In other words, you are given the total dollar amount of your company’s total compensation to you for your services - full disclosure).

There are also many technical, unsexy parts of the bill, like making sure your doctor has your most updated medical records.

Don’t fall for the usual “gotcha” bullcrap. It is getting tiresome and annoying. Newt has promised to repeal Obamacare post-haste. That he took the time to READ IT ALL and found some reforms worth reviewing AFTER its repeal speaks to his abilities.

It’s really easy to use the “repeal it all” soundbyte in an election season. It’s speaks better of a candidate to me that they can say, “let’s repeal the whole thing; but after doing that, let’s bring up for consideration the parts of the bill that were true reforms.”

Enough of the gotcha crap already.

Look I had an MRI the other day..I was in the office 30 minutes, and the bill was $1400. If the free market was allowed to work and the insurance company wasn’t controlling the cost structure, that procedure would probably be around $250.

Box up a couple o' chickens and mail them to the insurance company, tell them it's the best you can do.

(don't forget to punch some air holes in the box before mailing ;)

" We know that costs are high because insurance creates inflation."

False! GovernMental Insurance has caused all the inflation. Medicare, when it was foisted on the populace by LBJ was condemned by doctors because the fee for service concept was a blank check that would tempt all doctors, hospitals and other medical services to start a landslide of inflation.

In addition, polititians obsess on being loved, being pseudo heros and buying votes by being the giving gods of government, the provider of all money, goods and services to overspend without out any restraint whatsoever!!!

Now the proof is historical fact and an undeniable truth of life. I've watched this as one who was helping seniors cover themselves with insurance since before there ever was a "Medicare" or anyother socialized GovernMental monstrosity as we have with Medicare alone, without adding this Obama, or Romney or Gingrich version.

C'mon you people. Think of what's happened and of what will happen if we try to put a GovernMental condom over all healthcare and insurance... It will burst and what gets conceived will horrify the most vivid imaginations!!!

They not only offered their own version, the House passed the legislation to make Medicare a premium support plan and to bloc grant Medicaid to the states. Ryan, Coburn, and Price have all offered plans going back a number of years to the present.

History and suggestions are not the way to disparage a candidate. Use facts and figures. So far I have heard non of what you suggest from Newt. In fact I heard otherwise. Why not raise up your candidate by presenting him or her in the best way with way they stand for instead of tearing down those candidates you don’t like? Let them stand of fall on their own merit.

“Right, from each according to their ability to each according to their need.”

That’s a rough slap...

I see a proposal to adopt direct negotiation and payment to the care provider — a private matter with no third party dictates.

I prefer all free-from-government options. That option in and of itself does not constitute Marxism, but rather a free market philosophy of direct negotiation.

It would still be better for a doctor than their ongoing and protracted attempts at extracting delinquent dimes from Medicare/Medicaid for services rendered.

This is no surprise... Newt’s support for forcing people to purchase health insurance is well known. Course, knowing the mood on FR lately this has now retroactively probably become a brilliant idea. I can’t wait til 2013 if Newt wins and people start pretending they didn’t vigorously back him. “How do these RINOS get in power? How does the media keep choosing our candidates?”

We need to convince Newt to leave healthcare to the open market.

A conservative needs no convincing on this point.

I don't see any solutions in all that verbiage. Only a statement of the problem and, at the end, a pipedream and a dangerous one, as well.

WAIT.

DID NEWT SAY "UNIVERSAL COVERAGE"?

Why, yes, he did:

By contrast, even Obamacare for all its trillions in taxes, spending, new entitlements, and new bureaucracy still does not achieve universal coverage. http://www.newt.org/solutions/healthcare
